Hi guys, need opinion on my new 400/512! Started the engine on a run stand and everything seemed ok, never really ran it up to 180 degree's. Oil pressure was 80 cold and 45 hot, engine fired right up sounded great. Fast forward to now, engine is in the car getting ready to take to the track, cold start 80 pounds let run till 180 degree's fill trans fluid and noticed oil pressure at 35 pounds. This is a 400/512 440 source stroker kit, Bullet solid roller with Johnson roller lifters. My machine shop did all the machine work, including checking all 440 source parts. Rods were.0022 and mains were .0035, they recommended coating the main bearings which I did at Calico coating. They did check lifter rise in the block and said all was good. they fit the cam with new bearings and said everything was good. Oil system is Milodon pan, their external pick-up kit, their hi pressure/hi volume pump with their ajustable oil pressure regulator kit. I/m using Brad Penn 20w50 with a hp-1 Fram oil filter. What do you guys think about the hot oil pressure at 35 psi? On cold start up the oil pressure slowly increase to 80 psi, according to Milodon using their external oil pick-up set-up they say this is normal! Any thoughts would be Appreciated. At 180 degree's, oil pressure 35 psi rev enging to 2500 and oil pressure climbs to 75 psi. Thanks Matt

Idle on run stand might have been a few hundred rpm higher?

Engine has had more break in time?

My 512 440 Source kit also experienced low idle oil pressure. Think they run the main bearing clearance too loose. My machine shop assembled everything and they did not note the bearing clearances on my ticket. I talked to MoparJoe about my pressure issue (20 at hot idle and 45 on highway) and he said they probably set the clearance to .0035). He said he had one 512 kit that had really loose clearance so he contacted them and got a different set of bearings sent. Stock clearances were much tighter than that! I changed things and went from 10w/30 to 15w/40 oil and changed the oil pump spring to the higher pressure black hemi. Idle pressure a little higher at 25 and now highway is closer to 65. Think those changes will be OK.
