oil

If it's a street motor and you're not making 800 HP I'd just use whatever you're gonna run after it's broke in!, 10W40 or somthing like that. Shouldn't make a tremendous difference whatever you use.

I am useing Valvoline VR-1 racing oil. Suppose to have zinc. That's what is in my new 360 that I hadn't fired up yet.

use a zinc oil additive!
Valvoline VR-1 racing does have zinc in it.
as does amsoil, royal purple, and a few others.
the newer diesel oils do NOT have zinc.

use Comp's additive to be on the safe side.

you can use whatever oil you want as long as you use a bottle of cam/engine break in additive. the additive takes up for the lack of zddp. after break in, drain oil, change filter and either use the same combo of oil+additive or use a good one like brad penn, joe gibbs that has good levels of zddp.

I used Valvoline VR-1 20W-50 on the last flat tappet engine I broke in about 3 months ago. I did not use any additives and had zero problems, but I did coat the cam and bottom of the lifters with the heavy Crane Cams lube.

I would suggest to anyone else to use the additive. :)
