ok good news /bad news about trans - tranny works but linkage must be mesed up

so i put the rear wheels on stands and had my buddy sit in the car with it running and his foot on the brake. i disconnected the trans linkage and manually put the trans in reverse - and VOILA the driveshaft spun! so that is the good news!!!

bad news, as soon as i put the car down and hooked the linkage up again, same issue is happening. car will start in park and neutral but the shifter will not engage reverse AND when i go from park to Drive and back to Park and then to Drive again, the shifter is not lined up anymore with letter indicators (P R N D 2 1). very odd. also when the wheels are on the ground i get no spinning - i even tried giving it some good throttle and nada.

must be simple -i am just missing something i think.

Have you checked tranny fluid level with the car running on a flat surface.It sounds like your linkages are out of adjustment.More info needed,did you change the tranny?T.convertor?
