This is a great forum with ads or no ads. I can remember using rotary phones on a daily basis...no computers, no cell phones maybe a chance encounter with a bag phone once in a while. If the ads help keep the site running so be it. The knowledge, parts and friends you make are worth it. What would your lives be like without, Rusty, Rat Rod Al, toolmanmike, memike, 4 speed ragtop and guys like Colorado Hill. I could fill this whole post up with helpful members!

Ok.. I get SOME ads Ok
but gold or not you shouldn't spend more time deleting ads on a given session than reading and interacting with the actual forum.. and that's what it's gotten to.

Non Gold Members are still going to get ads. Gold Membership allows you to not watch any ads. Even if there are more Gold Members why should you watch less and pay nothing?

Refer to post #18, Profit is not a dirty word.

Tom
I was asking if the volume of ads would go down.

When it comes to advertising on this (and other) sites, the analogy I'm always reminded of is ŕtelevision: Advertising is the "necessary evil" that pays the bills.

Now it used to be that one could sign-up for Cable TV, and thus eliminate all (or most) of the annoying commercials, and thankfully that is still the case here on FABO.

Sadly, though, that's no longer the case for ltelevision.
ADA ?
I opened this thinking the American Disability Act was on the chopping block to find out it was only a time wasting foray into the abyss of a freeloader/ad hater.

LMAO

Well, shake the shekels outta yer wallet and go gold. You EXPECT to be heard, listened to when youre too cheap to help the site $$$.
You've been here 15 years, how many gold memberships have you bought?
You could also clear you browser and delete cookies.
Fixed it....and thank you for that.

I hear a lot of people quoting 14 cents per day ....how many cigarettes is that? Or is it part of a cigarette? Not even a decent slurp of a cold beer....or taste of a fine whiskey.

As said above, if you want to play you have to pay. This is a capitalist society we live in - so surely you understand that nothing comes for free. I have seen quite a few members who resisted Gold for so long all of a sudden become big advocates for it once they have it installed. The pain without is not worth the time spent whining about seeing all the adverts.

Suck it up buttercup and open your wallet.....or ingratiate yourself so much that some kindly soul endows you with a 12-month subscription.

...now, did I hear someone mention cookies?

We also need our red x back why did we lose it when other F(x)BO sites still have it
Geez Don, FBBO doesn't have it either. It was being abused so it went away. Anything else you'd like to ***** about? It look like you should start you own forum and do things the way you want.

You should add your name to the helpful members list. :thankyou:

So, buy a gold membership. It’s really simple.

This is a post from @Joeychgo from a few years back-

Software, hosting, servers have to be bought and upgraded, people that help with coding have to be paid, not to mention I have to make a living.

Just to give you an idea, the last server I bought cost $7,000 and I bought 2 of them. That's just to buy the servers, I still have to have them in a datacenter which costs me every month as well. I also have to pay for the software to run the servers, security software, etc. (those I have to pay monthly) There is a lot, especially when you have sites like this.

Bought two servers at $14,000 to keep the forums running, and that was the price from 3 years ago. Plus hosting, software costs, upgrades, security so the place doesn’t turn into a cesspool of viruses, etc, etc.

It costs a bunch to maintain a site like this, just look at the data- almost 526k threads? 6.8 million messages? How many pictures are there, and how much memory does that take? It takes a shitload of storage and computing power to keep this site working like it does.

How much would you complain if your computer picked up a virus here and it wiped out your hard drive? Or if the site was ad free, but took so long to load a page it crashed your browser? Nobody would use the site, because that would affect everyone, and the place would die.

If it’s not worth .14 cents a day to you it shouldn’t be worth this amount of complaining either.

If it was your site would you post less ads and leave money on the table? Probably not

Tom
I guess I'd try to strike a balance between ad volume and site member usability.........keeping in mind that members/contributors supply all of the content for the website.

Full disclosure - I have no complaints, just asking questions.

Ive found if you are viewing the site on a cellphone without being gold, it is almost impossible to deal with all the ads. I typically view the site on a laptop running W11, Google Chrome and Adblock Plus and I dont have any issues with ads.
That being said, I eventually will become a gold member, I believe in supporting sites that I use and get lots of information from, same as buying software that I like rather than hacking the programs oldschool.
The only reason I havent gone gold yet, is due to the exchange rate atm, Im in Canada and the 50 USD translates to 72 CAD to me, almost 50% more. And its not just this site, I seek out Canadian vendors for products/parts first because of the astronomical cost of buying from the US. Example, I really want a headlight relay kit from Crackedback, but when I did the math, his $187USD translated to $270CAD, and thats before taxes and duty fees, so I need to wait.
Its not about being overly cheap, because Im not, I just recently retired and its just about trying to save a few bucks in a financially harsh world.

Can cracked back send a drawing and a material list and you get the material there locally? Mail shouldn't have a "duty" or does it?
