FWIW... you may find this amusing but instructive about people's attitudes...... When I moved to this area, after living near Charlottesville, VA for 2 years, I finally settled across the Blue Ridge Mtns. C'ville is a regional bastion of elitism and the associated politics; it has a poor balance between blue collar, white collar, and farm.
Here is the recent cover illustration from a C'ville local rag that likes to try to stir things up. Notice what the 'bad driver' car looks like? I am sure any Volvo driver illustrated would have a halo above.... So much for an egalitarian view of people in C'ville!
