OOTB Speed-Pro rings

Do most of you check gap on rings out of the box (Speed Pro's) or install and go ?

Wouldnt hurt to check the gap better safe than sorry.

Some rings are file to fit... some are not. It should be checked regardless, and I run the 2nd ring gap larger, so I end up filing thme a little anyway. The file to fit sets are .005" larger than the finished bore size...

I allways check them too no matter what type or brand. It only takes a few minutes then you know it's right. I knew a fellow once that didn't check his and they must have been on the tight side cause before it ran 25 minutes to get the cam broken in a set of rings butted together and pulled the top off a piston.

better safe than sorry.this is why you build them yourself,so you know the little xtra went into the build.
