I have replaced the gaskets twice on the 90 degree oil adapter twice and the darn thing still leaks. I am thinking about using a remote oil filter. What are your opinions? Will it work on my early a-body with TTI headers?

i'm lucky enough to have a heater delete car and before i knew they were scarce i mounted my remote filter on the block off plate. if i recall its only two holes i drilled, so if i need it stock again its an easy fix. mines a 67

I first had the adapter and kept having leaks so now I run a remote filter and love it. I did it a little different than alot do cause I blocked the big middle hole with a 3/4x1" fine thread bolt and tapped out the bottom hole and removed the upper plug and installed 5/8" push-loc fittings directly in the block. No leaks now.

Here's a couple pics.

Thanks for the replies and photo's. Any recommendation on witch one to buy?
I pulled that header twice already and looking for a more permanent fix.

I have Summits name brand one on my Duster and I ran one on my old Dart for 2 years before we sold it. No problems.

i just put one on a bult 340 i first smothed all the sharp eges with die grinder moter gets twised 7800 no leks and 75psi.

I'm scared to put one back on the car. I had one on my motor back in 2001. Had all the lines as far away from heat as possible...13 minutes into breaking in my cam I had a HUGE fire ball come from the passenger side of my car. I yanked the key, grabbed the fire extinguisher...my friend grabbed the garden hose we were using to cool the radiator and blasted the flames (not knowing it was an oil fire). Long story short, it looked like the radiant heat from the headers made one of the hoses burst (or possibly a defective hose). This sprayed hot oil onto the VERY hot headers...BIG FLAMES! After that I decided to go back to my 90 degree filter that leaks a drop or two.

I think I still have the rest of the remote oil filter kit (minus the hoses)...I believe it was a Permacool remote oil filter kit with dual filters if you are interested.

I'm not a fan of the way they look. That being said, if you're frustrated and want to do it... Use -AN fittings and braided hose. It's a lot more money, for some very good reasons. You dont want hose clamps if possible, and you dont want a hole or the lines damaged at all, by anything.

I like fishy68's approach of tapping the block and wish I had done that but I have not had any issues with lines or heat .... plus ... once it is remote you get to run a cooler and other toys if you want.

AN lines are better, and much handier to disassemble if you need to, plus they look better. I wish I would have used them but back when I put my car together I couldn't find any locally and went with the push-locs rather than order some AN fittings and wait another week. Just impatience on my part. But it has worked fine.

hkeller, on the 90 adaptor what I found is the gasket that goes inbetween the block and the adaptor is kinda thick and because of that it wouldn't let the adaptor sit tight against the block. So i used a slightly thinner gasket and it stopped the leak. Not sure if this is true in your case but you could check it out.

I didn't think you had to use a 90* adapter with the TTi headers?
On an early A you must use the adaptor.

I got the oil remote oil adapter installed and the oil leak is fixed. I think was a better way for me to go in the long run. Much Much easier to change oil now. Thanks for all the good advice....
