Original brakes!

I got around to checking the brakes on the 74 Valiant 4 door I recently bought and this is what I saw, completely virgin hardware! The backing plates which are unpainted have only a few spots of rust. All I did was blow off the brake dust, unbelievable! 42K mile car. I still can't believe the original condition of this car.

I have the same on a 1972 dart with 64k miles on the car.

Check and see if the shoes still have the Chrysler Pentastar on them.

i found the same thing when i upgraded the rear end in my duster
i had bought an 8 3/4 from a 68 dart

i figured i would replace the brake hardware, cylinders, shoes and such to be on the safe side
when i placed the old, 1968 shoes next to the new ones, i put the ones with the most meat on them on the car and returned the new ones

Very nice for upstate NY, so must not have been driven in salty winters. A SoCal guy would consider that "very rusty".
