A friend of mine is restoring a '70 Plymouth and nis trying to keep it as original as possible. Was the driveshafts painted or were they left bare from the factory?

All of them I ever had were bare metal. '67 Barracuda to '85 5th Ave.
steel pipe and tubing gets a thin coat of kosmoline like stuff from the foundry.
I know it burned away where welded. The body of the drive shaft wouldn't get cleaned, primed, and painted to keep it from rusting on the dealers lot. It would however get your hands nasty.
