All the 70-72 318 Dusters with the 3spd option had factory installed 8 3/4 rears that i've ever seen. The auto trans cars all had 7 1/4. Not saying you couldn't option one in, but i'll bet that was a really rare choice.
The 7 1/4" axle was standard on every A body built. EVERY one.
The 8 3/4" axle was the upgrade for the towing package and could be optioned even on slant six models. The 340 cars from 68-72 got the 8 3/4". All base model slant six and 318 cars got the 7 1/4" axle if there was no towing, Police or Taxi fleet option chosen. .
Interesting.... Everyone knows that no 340, 383 or 440 car came with a 7 1/4" axle.Absolute baloney.
All the big block A's came with an 8 3/4".
Same for all the 340 A's.
Same for any 1970 up A with a 3-speed stick.
The 7 1/4" axle was standard on every A body built. EVERY one.
