Check this out. My ex-wife grew up with Keegan Michael Key. They lived in the same neighborhood, played together since they were in grade school, and carpooled to school together. We even named our youngest son after him before he "made it big", and we wanted to have a unique name that started with "K".

Keegan went to the same college that I did, and my ex and I used to watch some of his performances there when he was in the theater. Then he went to grad school in PA. After graduating he came back and worked at Second City in Detroit for a while. We went to see a few of his performances there.

We all went out a few times, and he came over and hung out at our house a few times. My ex talked me into moving into the same neighborhood that they grew up in. Keegan's mom still lives in the same house that he grew up in. We used to see his mom walking around the neighborhood all the time while we lived there.

Well, Keegan soon moved to CA and landed a job on MAD TV for the last 6 seasons. He met Jordan Peele on the set there and got their own show on Comedy Central after MAD TV ended called Key & Peele.

One of the skits that they do on Key & Peele is about President Obama and Jordan Peele plays Obama, and Keegan plays Obama's angry alter ego, Luther. The skit is with Obama giving his various speeches, with Luther in the background "translating" what Obama is really thinking in his mind. It plays on how Obama is always calm and cool and keeps under control, but probably wants to explode inside...

A year or so ago, Keegan Michael Key & Jordan Peele got to meet with President Obama for real. Obama told Keegan that he needed a guy like "Luther" sometimes. Well, I guess that he really meant it, as President Obama had Keegan Michael Key with him for his speech to the White House Correspondents’ Association.

It's pretty funny, check it out....

It's kinda long, but skip to 14:30 to get to the part with Keegan Michael Key...

My sons get to visit him and his mom on Christmas when they are in town. Keegan comes to Detroit over Christmas to see his family. My kids usually go to visit their grandparents then, and sometimes can catch him while he's visiting his mom at her house in the neighborhood. But he isn't there long, as his wife's family lives in another part of Michigan, and they go visit them the next day while they are close enough, so they only get to see him on Christmas. My oldest son was doing shots with Keegan Key's brother Kris last year on Christmas.

Here are some pictures of my boys with Keegan Michael Key:

It's one thing to make it in show business, but to get to hang out with the President is pretty cool!

That is just to kewl Karl  Keegan Michael Key is a very funny guy I have watched a few times on late nite Comedy :D:D
Wow your oldest son looks a bunch like you man :glasses7:

Neat story and definitely a funny dude!

And he's so friendly. He's just as genuine when you get to know him as he seems on TV. He's fun to hang around the few times that I met him. He used to come over to visit my wife before he moved away.

I haven't seen him since he went to California, but he still tells the boys to say "Hi" to me for him when he sees them...

Sometimes the kid's mom can't make it back to Detroit for Christmas, but when she does, they all hang out with Keegan Michael Key. When she doesn't, the boys go over and visit him.

We used to have an old picture of just after our Keegan was born, and big Keegan was laying on his mom's couch with his arms extended holding our little Keegan up above him. That was the first time the Keegans met after ours was born. I don't know where that picture went over the years...

That is a really cool story, Karl. Angie and I watched that clip yesterday online. If I remember right, I think you've mentioned something about him before, but I had forgotten the connection you and your family had. That is really awesome! Thanks for sharing it.

That's really cool. Seems like a great humble guy!

My favorite skit is this one...showing just how afraid we men are of our better half's.
