I am thinking about adding a panhard bar . i have fiberglass leafs and sliders already

Has anybody done this??

Interesting. Are you getting some side movement during hard curves? We have a Jensen Interceptor that has rear leafs and a panhard bar. For a while it was too high in the rear end, made the car behave wierd cause the bar angle was not close enough to horizontal. Had to have the springs de-arched.

Some, I want to improve the handling this year without going full blown watts rear suspension=$$$
Try adjustable panhard bar. They use these kits in older mustangs for handling

I'm putting serious thought into it. I beat the hell out of my cars. The urge to stomp the gas and pitch the car around turns is too great!

I have left over 5/8" heim joints/weld-in bungs, and the remaining materials are cheap and convenient, why not?

Just be sure to set it up right (anyone who doesn't know the shadetree way to do it: fill your car with four 200lb people, crawl under car, confirm bar is level, tighten!)

Dang, now I feel like I want a panhard bar.

Hmm. You guys are cool.

Racing vintage mustangs is very popular turns out! I found a performance place that is dedicated to making them handle. Owner says fancy and expensive Watts set-up is not necessary unless you are looking for a slight advantage and you are a proffesional racer.
Pan Hard properly set-up will do the job-Great
They dont make any for A Body mopars but The mustang units are pretty close and i may be able to modify

I would say get 10 neighbor kids to help, but that may look bad.

Tell those gals that there's cheetos & jersey shore re-run's playing in the car and you'll be done adjusting in 5.

Whether a Panhard Bar assists handling or not, who's to say? But a positively located rear axle will ALLOW the good handling suspension to do it's thing tightly & freely.

The whole idea is to set the Panhard Bar up ASSUMING you drive with a loaded down car. Obviously, once tightened down, the rear suspension will be slightly sprung, so keep that in mind for 'daily driver' cars.

Guys, be sure to take into consideration:

1) Tighten Sway Bar down after Panhard Bar is set up
2) Even though the height in the rear will only drop 0.5"-1.5"(MAX! If it goes this far, get new leaf springs!), keep an eye on rear shock length. Too long of shock could turn into little or no shock when you squeeze them like that.

Actually why do i have to put the cheeto munchers in the car??
Nobody will ride with me ever???(i dun no???)
Shouldn,t i just put one of the sister-in-laws lunch buckets in the front seat and call it a day?(to simulate my weight)
Do I need to load the car down-no back seat or passenger seat?

Why add weight when adjusting? To compensate for load under varying conditions.

The amount of weight you add (assuming you already have your desired interior/creature comforts in car) depends on how much you drive, how stiff your suspension is, are people riding in the car very often, etc.

Why is that info important? With added weight, you want to keep the panhard bar perfectly level (if the panhard bar isn't level at all times, it's not working {IN THEORY}). In truth, if it isn't set up properly, it's a waste of time and effort.

Oh, and the '800lb' number was kinda off the top of my head. If it's you, a passenger, and loaded cooler 90% of the time you drive, get 500lb in the car and adjust (for example). SHADETREE!!

Have no experience with them on A-bodies or mopars for that matter. However I did help my roommate install one on his 03 mach 1 and there was a tremendous difference. Granted since than hes put a slew of money replacing every suspension part underneath the car, and drives it like a raped ape. Before the added suspension mods, but after panhard bar,it tracked better, with much crisper cornering. It carried through the mods and now it'll lift a tire in the corner (there is talk of adjusting it, he prefers that it break instead of hold)

I love driving that car.....very easy to drive that motor to its limit.

Thanks I am going to try it
GET THOSE A BODIES ON THE ROAD!!:yawinkle:

Seems that which ever direction the corner is, affects weather the rear end plants or lifts, also if the bar is fixed to the center of the rear end it affects both tires identically but if it is affixed to one side or the other it favors that side tire more.

Could be problematic for a car going around corners both directions.

Good questions and the fancier ones are fixed on the ends and connect to the pumpkin where they are adjustable
Looks like people have been road racing old mustangs for a long time-
Lots of info

I am buying a Pan Hard kit from "mustangdepot.comPart # MS2202A $369.00
I would post a pic but i have not been succsesful yet with pictures. Probally a good thing so far because if i get to drinking who knows what pics will go up??/ LOL Then I will get barred! OUCH

Wow, thats a good looking panhard bar kit. Simple, between frame rails mount, double adj, brace strut for the frame mount. Good choice! That sway bar they have on that mustang is also nice. Wonder if those mustangs have similar frame rail spacing...

With all this talk about rear control (I jump on and off bandwaggons all the time on my mopar), I have been looking at a watts setup where the bell crank is frame mount.

Regarding pictuers. When I offload them from the camera, I put them in a folder in the "my pictures" with the date that I offload on the folder. Then I can sort them by date based on the dates on the folders. I keep all my duster pics in a master folder labeled such. Then inside that folder I just dump the pictures in folders with dates inside that..

Then I create a master sub folder labeled "compressed".

Then I copy all the pics into the compressed folder, open microsoft picture manager and select all the pictures and compress them all at once so they can be uploaded any time and just hit save. it saves them all compressed in the compressed folder.

Number two, when uploading pictures to this website, you can go to select the picture and if you are not too sure what is in the picture, just right click and hit preview. Then also look at (note) the file name in the preview. That way when you actually select the picture for upload to this website, you select that file name of the picture and it shows the file name in the upload. That way you have the right picture and dont have the wrong picture uploaded.

There is also a way to remove the pictures that you have posted on this site and it is pretty easy.

If you need a little help uploading pictures or compressing the pictures so that they can be uploaded, myself or someone here on this site I am sure would be glad to help.

You can PM me if you want to regarding picture uploads. I always like to help out fellow Mopar people.

Did you ever look at the room between the rear end and the gas tank on an A-body. Not a lot of room for a panhard bar. Measure twice, cut once.

Where the panhard bar crosses the centerline of the rear axle is you rear roll center.

The rear roll center should be above the front roll center.

I Have a fuel Cell. You can flip over in the sand traps that slow you down if you spin out/
