Any one know what this part is called so I can order a new one? It’s part of the vacuum advance for my distributor.
Yea it also has an electric hook up on it as wellThe vacuum canister?
1971 Dodge Dart 318Agree vac can for emmisions.
What year?
What car?
What engine?
CAP?
If you're going for OEM restoration I get it. But if not just bypass it. I have my CAP can installed and hooked up but the spring is full tight making it effectively inoperative.
I think moparmarks nailed it

CAP (cleaner air package) was what the emmissions control was called in 67.
And yes if you go from ported vacuum to the vacuum advance canister and cap off any other lines you should be good.
Isn't that what I just got through saying?Canisters store vacuum, this is a solenoid and they don't. Think of it as a 'vacuum switch'.
If you leave the solenoid in place you can leave the connectors'...connected. It won't do anything.
If you remover the solenoid then tape up the connectors to the nearest part of a harness bundle.
Done.
Should I do anything with the electrical connectors on the canister? Or just not hook those up as well??
