I was tagged a couple times on a car here in the Florida panhandle. I didn't want to hijack his sale add.
I have that car on my watch list for along while now. Different pictures Facebook.
No back glass, deck lid it totally rotted. Not bad mouthing the car or price. But most everyone thinks these cars are restorable or the parts are worth their weight in gold.
Well this is what I do, and trust me it's a lot of work for not a lot of return on the effort, unless you find some nice clean stuff for a decent price.
And on the note of " The scrapper will pay $500 for a junk car is BS.
I loaded my latest parts car up this morning and took it to the scrap yard.
Loaded with parts from other cars that had no interest. Guy at the yard tells me they're paying $4 a 100 pounds. So even if I had the engine and trans in it maybe another $10.

Here's my payday !

I would like to go 6 hours one way to go get that , or others. But just not feasible .

Sellers say "extra parts bla bla bla. But if it's all scrap it's just that. I have plenty of sheetmetal parts with a small rust holes somewhere on it. Who's gonna buy that. They already have that.
Theresa and I enjoy doing this as a hobby and meeting alot of you guys, so we will continue to do so as long as I can make a buck doing it.
Any comments and conversations welcome !

Yes Al, I always look forward to what you are doing, parts available, ect. You two are a great resource for this community.
I have been fortunate to get a few hard to find parts from you two and always packed well at very fair prices!

Thank you for doing what you do.

PS. What are you going to do with all that money?

Here in Ohio the scrap yard won't even take a car if it doesn't have an engine in it. I took a 1993 Town Car to the yard a few weeks ago and they gave me $350 for it and I had to fight for that! The kicker is I drove it there, it was ugly but it ran. LOL :)

Everything you are saying is spot on. What you are doing is a great hobby but can't be maintained at your expense. I was truly glad to meet both of you and what I got from you in person and thru shipping was exactly what you said it was and fair. I have noticed the "smalls" are somewhat helping your listings. Those little pieces that are very hard to come by...especially body chrome retainers and all the little one offs...but then there is all the packaging and trips to send items off, and they are low dollar items even though that all does add up. I would do it if it covered ALL my costs and a little bit of profit, if and only if I didn't need a life sustaining income from the hobby. I have only noticed one minor flaw in your business model. I would put that beautiful lady you have in sales, and you just do the grunt work. :poke: And also run the Almart Blue Light Specials.

I've parted out numerous A body cars. The scrap values fluctuate a lot so it is hard to know what a POS car is going to be worth when there are no parts on it that are good enough to sell. Years ago when China was building the Three Gorges Dam, metal values were way high because China was buying up steel to use in that massive project. Scrap tin and even heavier iron stuff was paying up to $230 a ton here. Once China quit buying steel, our scrap values dropped hard and quickly to around $30 a ton. Imagine you thought you'd get $400 for that junk car and when you get there to dump it off, the clerk hands you a check for $41. I was parting out cars mainly to obtain as many A body parts as I could and to make a few bucks along the way. It got to where it wasn't worth it....I started turning away FREE car offers because it absolutely was not worth the effort. Prices still fluctuate so I'll still chop up a wreck but I'm not actively looking for these cars....I will take them when the opportunity comes up though.

We once drove all the way to @coloradohill to drop off a Barracuda hood. We'll sorta ! That was a great day Norm. Having lunch on top of the world in God's country. We will not forget that.
Thanks.

Norm is another great member here. I've never had the privilege of meeting Norm in person like we did with you and Theresa, just bought parts and did a couple small favors for one another thru for a bodies. We hope you can keep up the good work Al.

It always makes me laugh whenever I see ads where the seller claims "the scrap value is more than I'm asking", or some other bullshit. I tried parting out cars long ago, but never had much success selling the parts, even real clean rust free parts. Then I had buyers claiming they never received the parts they paid for, even though I had the receipt for the shipping cost with their destination address on it. I eventually took most of what I had to the scrap yard or gave it away to a buddy.
Bless you Al and Theresa for your efforts at keeping this hobby alive.

We try to keep it fun , like the sales I post up with Hokkie names, I have to be able to differentiate one frome the next.
I do have a sense of humor, although many may not recognize it !
And we both thank everyone for buying our junk.
I do try to salvage even the small things to pass along. Watch the wanted adds to see what people need to keep the project moving along.

Preach it brother Al! It's all true and you would know. You are an integral part of this site. I always look forward to your sales and the titles crack me up! You and T have made many memories and friendships along the way. I'm glad to say that My wife and I are part of that. Thx, Walt

Al you are one of the best dismantlers I've ever seen you are very good at what you do please do not stop doing what you're doing and you sell stuff for bottom low dollar prices...I bet @Oldmanmopar and you have handled more Chrysler stuff than the CEO's

I absolutely agree with this. I've parted out a couple though hardly like you do Al. It was a LOT of time and effort for, basically, beer money. I did it to help out others but it's hardly a money maker. When I get finished with the last four I will be done .

True story. I got a lot of flak when I posted that I was parting my 65 2 door Dart sedan, because there was a part someone wanted/needed. I got $18 at the scrap yard. It was missing all major body panels including the roof. Someone got upset because they needed part of the firewall, and it would only take me a few minutes to remove it with a sawzall, etc, etc, … You get the idea. I did save some good parts, and when I’m sure I don’t need them, I’ll give them to someone on this site that really needs them.

I used to make a good cabbage parting cars I bought locally, but what really killed it are the shipping rates that shippers charge these days. Fastenal discontinuing 3rd party shipping east of the Mississippi River didn't help at all.
I'm not saying I was getting rich, but I was getting 4x return on money spent and I price my parts cheap. It is more of the hobby thing for me and I don't care if I'm making minimum wage dismantling and packaging/shipping parts.

Al,,,,you and Theresa are great people .
Whenever I see something you post that I need,,,,I jump immediately .
I never try to negotiate it down,,,because you already have it listed for a fair price .
Many times I buy things from you I don’t need,,,,,but it is so good,,,,I might need it and then can’t find it from someone else .
And the packing is always top rate,,,,and the shipping price is always fair.

Yeah,,,I read an ad the other day about for an old car this guy was gonna scrap.
Was laughing pretty hard on that price,,,,I didn’t see one desirable part there .
An old rotten body with out an engine and driveline,,,not much money there at yard price these days .

Al,,,y’all keep up the good work !

Tommy
