Pete Towenshend regrets joining The Who

-
quite interesting read(s) there ...

I can see where Towenshend's coming from ; he doesn't prefer to collaborate with others in an artistic , creative capacity , as he'd much rather be a solo artist whom simply contributes to the works of others ( henceforth the Brian Eno references ) .

Britons have a rather dry , deadpan sense-of-humour , and that's showing here in Pete's assertion that being in a Punk-like , thug-minded band has had a lasting effect on his later years ( e.g. , the troublesome wrist and whatnot ) .

So he's being part goofy , and part sincere .

Thanks for sharing !

Its easy to say garbage like that when you have millions in the bank.
He would have ended up just another pub playing cover musician mixing in a few of his originals to the locals dismay. He is a talented musician- however Roger Daltrey's voice was the force behind The Who (in my opinion).

Don't forget Keith Moon's drumming.

I disagree- imho, Townshend's Empty Glass is every bit as good as any Who album ever made (and maybe better). He would have been fine (although neither he nor The Who would have been as good separate as they were/are together).

He did sound good solo without the Who backing him up.

I just love the way these over paid unapreciative artists (not just musicians either, ie; Charlie Sheen comes to mind....) , It's WE who buy there music and make them famous, and now after I have all my money and fame maybe I will diss the people that got me here and wonder what could have been, What ever happened to people, ALL people just being happy with what they have???

Agreed (I feel the same way about ozzy, but my anti-ozzy rant is not appropriate for a public forum :silent: ). Besides, he didn't join The Who, he was a founding member. That band made him, and way to bite the hand that feeds, there, Pete.

Yep hindsight is 20/20 for all of us. I wish I had millions in the bank and not worry about anything like healthcare, keeping my home longterm and all the things us little people worry about. Most of these people are are so dissconnected from us in the real world it makes me sick. He should be thanking his lucky stars he is not one of the has-been rockers just down and out and broke.

Pete's solo stuff was good, but I don't think he wouldv'e ever left the ground if not for the Who, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon. I'm sure it's easy for him to have regrets now that he has plenty in the bank, like DA69RT GT said.

And without the Who he very well just could have never made a name for himself on his own. The Who, just like all other mega successful rock bands from that era had the opportunity to showcase all of their members who all were very famous and successful. Look at the king of them all, The Beatles. Every member of the Beatles were extremely successful on their own. There are several "pioneering" rock acts from the 60's who were very successful.

Quote from above article

"Townshend was arrested in 2003 in Britain as part of a child pornography sting but later cleared. He accessed a Web site containing child pornography but said it was for research for his own campaign against child ****. He was required to register as a sex offender, despite being cleared."

If he was cleared in a court of law this should have nothing to do with the original posting. I will not be the one to judge the man.

yeah X2 here on that, he should of come up with a better story than the one that he did, but seems like you can say anything about people now and some how some people beleve it even if they are exonerated.

I watched the Who documentary on the Palladium Channel. The band all agreed that Entwistle was the catalyst behind the scenes. I love the Who but I don't take Pete's statement to heart. He's the Who and the Who is him and I can't imagine one without the other. That's like trying to picture U2 without the Edge...

What an arrogant ***. Talented, yes, very. But how many insanely talented musicians never get their big break? His voice sucks in my opinion, nowhere near as powerful as Daltry's. He's always ripped on Daltry and Moon. He needs a punch in the nose.

X3. This should have been his biggest regret.
