I keep mine on a hard drive and upload them when I post so the links don't ever get broken...

This is off no use when you also visit other sites/forums and want to post/use the same pics.
Then again, even this site couldn't even handle a forum software-update, where all the image-attachments previews of older topics got trashed and only their links remain, so you have click on every single one to view them in a view tab.

For paid forumsoftware like this vBulletin-stuff is, I would not have accepted that.

You can post them on each site from the drive that you store them on... You can post your pictures on any site you choose when you have them on an external hard drive... It's not a one shot pony here... Once they are posted, you don't need to keep the drive hooked up...

I've got a 1 TB external hard drive. I just need to figure out how to use it as a server.

This is unfortunate! I am certainly not paying Photobucket just for the option of sharing my own photos. I guess all of the photos I have shared on FABO will disappear now since they were shared from Photobucket. Have to see how it goes from here on out just uploading my photos direct from my hard drive. The Photobucket option sure was easy though.
