Hi guysssssssss. What I have is 318 stock heads going to 4 barrel holly headers 355 rear gear stock converter. What I am after is a nice sounding cam.not concerned about fuel milage. The plan is to drop in a 340 or 360 in 2 years. So for now I would like a nice lumpy cam sound.I thought 477 lift and 284 dur would work nicely. What do you all think.kind of want people to say man that is a nice 318 sound. Thanks Don.

I don't think a lumpy-sounding cam would be a good idea in a stock-compression and stock-headed 318. You'd lose tons of torque on the low end and your heads would be too restrictive for the top-end power that type of cam would be ground for. I'd recommend going with a Comp Xtreme Energy series cam (XE262) or a Lunati Voodoo 256/262, although you could possibly get away with larger versions of those series. I'm planning on going with a Crane H260 cam for my 318 Duster (which will have dual exhaust and 4-bbl ThermoQuad), probably one of the mildest aftermarket cams out there but I'll need it due to my 2.76 rear gears and severe altitude (~7000 ft. where I live).

You may want to check out the Comp Thumpr line. They were originally designed for big sound but they are actually outperforming the extreme line. I have the roller mutha thumpr in a 408 and have been very happy with it so far. Big sound and big power. I'm sure the techs at Comp can help pick the right one for your build.

I think the "kids" cam choices make the most sense. I'd go a step higher. Heres my cam; Crane split duration, Advertised @ 272/284 (@.050-216/228 ) .454/.480 on a 112. Smooth idle. Today it ran a 15.14 @ 89.65 mph, first time out.

Auto 904 & 3.21 gears with a stock size tire. (It needed more gear.)

Comp cams has something similar on a 110 centerline that will chop chop chop for you. The split duration will work well wit the stock heads.

A tighter centerline (fewer degrees) will increase the chop and peak torque. A wider centerline will idle smoother and give more vacuum at idle and will rev higher and is more street gas tolerant with high compression ratios.

Since you are running the stock compression ratio, I would stick with the comp 262 XE series or the Lunati 60402. Don't get hung up on sound. It's all about the package as a whole. Everything must work together to make power where you truly need it. An engine that makes it's peak HP @ 6500 is fun on the street for about 15 minutes. Be truthful to yourself in regards as to how you will really be driving this car.

Ok i got the jist of things. However I am not concerned about power right now, this is for now just a criuse night car and car show.here in Ontario Canada there is a new law if your caught 50 kss over the speed limit, fishtaleing, squelling your tires ,street racing you loose you car, licence for seven days and a fine up to 10 grand and if caught street racing you could loose your car for ever:angry7: So for now i was hoping for a little lumppy cam.i plan for something bigger in 2 years for resale.if i go that way.

Cam resale is a near impossible thing. Even if use just for a dyno.

If you want a chop chop sound without much care for anything else, grab a MoPar 284 duration cam and advance it 2 degress. It'll sound like a lumber jack on to much crack hittin the log with his axe.

we put the comp xe-268h-10 in my 318 with the 4bbl 360 heads { mild bowl work for quench } and the tti headers it sounds pretty mean and it goes pretty good with the 323 gear set , I lost some compression with the bigger heads but the cam pulls to 5800 and every thing I added to the motor can go right on a 360 stroker later when I use up the 318 bottom end which beats buying stuff twice , if you really want chop try the comp xr-286 line but if you go to far you'll end up squealing just to get the car moving eh! what the hell kind of law is that ? and who elected those tools ? I'm from TO and it sounds like somebody/s on council / provincial parl need to learn first hand about the old cherry beach express eh is that clown Jakobac part of this ? he was a fag his whole youth but I would have thought all the beatings he got back them would have straightened his attitude
