I had the front pinion bearing go bad in the 9 1/4 rearend in my truck. Is there any way to get the cup (or race) out without taking the carrier out of the housing?

Not sure where you're headed with this Jack but assume that ya just want to change the outboard bearing. Even if you could get the race out I'm pretty sure you'll find that the pinion bearing is pressed onto the shaft.
Oh I take that back, I was thinking of the inner pinion bearing.

Jack, you'll want to check all the bearings. If the front
pinion went bad, the rear could be on the way out.
You can change the pinion bearings and use the shins in the same spots over again. I do it all the time at work.
As long as your not changing gears, I wouldn't worry about
noise or anything.

O.K. Thanks guy's. I was just worried about having to set the carrier and pinion up again. I have never done it and it is quite imposing after reading the instructions on how to do it.
