pitman arm question

When installing a 73+ pitman arm on a 73+ power steering box, how far up the splines should the arm go?

There is about ~1/4" of splines still showing between the top of the pitman arm and the steering box when the pitman arm nut gets tight.

I'm just wondering if that is normal to have that kind of a gap?

You just crank that nut on and it is a taper. I think 1/4 inch left at top after pitman arm bottoms is normal. That's about what shows on mine.

When I installed the 73+ power steering box and pitman arm in my car I just put it on the shaft and tightened the nut. I don't recall how far it went on.

thanks guys, i figured it was normal but im well known for second guessing myself!
