My son and I pulled the 340/4 speed out of the car. Something I noticed while working under the car and after I took the bell housing off - there is no "block plate" on this engine. On my Ford, there is a sheet metal plate that goes behind the flexplate/flywheel and covers up areas where the block doesn't. I noticed on this mopar that I didn't have such a thing, and that, even before I took the it apart, I could see the flywheel on both sides of the oil pan.

Am I missing a part? Doesn't seem safe to have exposed ring gear.

There is no block spacer plate but there should be a lower inspection cover.

I have the cover that bolts to the bottom of the bell housing, but even with that, I can still see the flywheel. Feels like there should be more?

Nope, not a Ford. I don't know why they did that.
