Hey All,
I'm posting pictures of the cylinder head numbers and bottom of head below. I'm trying to determine if this is a 340 head. The block is definitely 340. According to Larry Shepard's Hot Rodding Small Block Mopar book, this is a 915 head, however as you can see in one of the shots AAWJ-360 is stamped. After reading and re-reading the chapter on cylinder heads I'm more confused. It talks about the 340 using the same cast as the 360 but modifications being done to make it a 340. Also talks about a 340TA. Just what do I have here? Do I have to take measurements of something to be sure of ID?

Same as a 340, already looks like it has the 2.02 intakes. Later years used the 1.88's like the 360's did when they came out in '71. So, yes, it is a 340 head.

The 3418915 was used on '71 -'72 regular 340's and the '70 340TA the difference on the TA was the pushrod hole on the intake side were bored offset away from the intakes runners so engine builders could straighten out the intake port without running into the push rod hole.
The 3418915 was also used on the '71-'72 360.
The 3418915 came with 1.88 valves except for the TA had 2.02, like abdywgn said it looks like someone added the 2.02 intakes.

Do they have a letter embosed by the spark plug holes?

flip the heads on their side and look on the side where the plugs screw in. you should see a big "j" there. those are "915 j" heads for sure.

Those are 340 heads. Often called 360 heads...but were first used on the 340 six pac engines in 1970 and 340's in '71 thru '73. The '72 and '73 340's used the smaller intake valve ...same as the 360...probably why they are often refered to as '360' heads. Good castings, use them. 915's are on my engine. Terry.

Also, I meant to add I pulled the heads off a buddy's '70 340 Dart Swinger he was getting rid of and they were '915's. With 2.020 valves. Original engine and heads. Terry.

mopar girl thoose are good heads no matter what the are on. any mopar heads with the 915 number on it is a good thing

They're fine. The early small valve heads all pretty much flow the same.

So would an "O" head have been original on a 70 340? and with 2.02's?
My 70 has these, trying to figure out if they are original or if someone put later heads on in the past.

Those are the original heads from a 70 340. Same as the T/A but not machined for the offset rockers. Valves are 2.02/1.6.
