Porting 587 heads

Just got my 587 heads back from the machine shop for my mild 360. They are mid
Seventys castings with 3 angle valve job and new springs, guides, and hardened seats.
I noticed in the exhaust ports a lump of metal not found in the earlier j heads. Can I
Remove these and grind them smooth with the rest of the port?

Smog ports in the floor of the exhaust?

There's no real gain by grinding the smog port boss down. The biggest gains are in the guide boss.

I get rid of them anyway, but Skews is right. Aside from appearance (and I just feel better after...lol) there's not a real gain just from them.
