Hey there,
I am very new to Mopars and anything mechanical in general. It's always been my dream to own a classic and gain basic mechanical skills, as I didn't grow up learning those things.
Two years ago, I found a beautiful 1972 Dodge Demon with a 318. Most everything is stock and well-maintained. I am really enjoying the process, but I have a lot to learn. I replaced the thermostat and a broken fan clutch. I also replaced the V-belt running from the fan clutch to the power steering pump, as it looked worn out. That seemed to resolve an overheating issue.
However, shortly after that repair, the belt started squealing when accelerating, and the power steering stopped working. The power steering fluid was low (I haven't identified a leak yet). I topped it off and ensured the belt was tightened just right (I hope). The steering was better, but still not fixed. Then, after idling for a few minutes, it began squealing consistently, and the engine overheated quickly.
I am assuming I should install a new pump. Opinions/advice on this issue would be much appreciated. I am very new to all of this and eager to learn, so let me know if anything sounds incorrect or if I didn't use the right term.
Thankyou!
