From my review it seems the only post that I have found indicate that the power steering pulleys are pressed on. I believe that I am dealing with a Saginaw style pump and have included a photo of the new pump. In my opinion it looks like this is not a press fit pulley judging by the threaded and keyed shaft.

On my old pump, the fitting on the end of the pulley accepts a 3/8" hex and looking further into the shaft, it appears to have threads too. I believe the threads to be 5/16" course. I can provide a picture of this as well.

So how do I remove the old pulley? Do I use the 3/8" hex and loosen the pulley or is this really a pressed on pulley and nothing needs to first be loosened?

Pressed I believe,...puller should have threads to go inside the shaft,...I use a bolt and washer to put em on.

Pre '75 pumps were typically threaded with a keyway. A nut holds them on. If your pulley has flats on the snout, that allows you to hold it from turning with a wrench while installing the nut. '75 and later Saginaw's were a press fit and you want to use the proper tool.

This is a '73 and I've included a couple of additional pictures. I don't recall a "flat" where I can get a wrench on. However, I don't have the pump in front of me. I don't know if you can see in the photo very well there is a 3/8" hex on the snout. Is it your understanding that this hex is a retaining nut which holds on pulley which is keyed on the shaft?
