I am switching to a 440 in my 73 scamp. The car already has a qa1 k member. I figure that the power steering box will make the fit a bit tight for headers. I know there are aftermarket power steering boxes that are smaller, but they are pricey and with the expenses of the build adding up, I am looking for options here.

With the added weight of the B.B. do I need power steering?

Would anyone use manual steering on this setup? I should say that the car is not going to be a rally car. Just a go straight car. We will drive it on the street as well. We still have torsion bars as well.

What would you do if you were me?

Funny, that is what I told my son when I got the idea. I just did not know if that was practical or prudent?

What changes to the column would be needed? I see a manual box for sale here.

I think the manual box requires a manual column (not positive) but you might could buy an adapter?? I'm sure someone else will know exactly what you need to do??? treblig

I put a 440 in a dart years back with manual steering ,was fine.

Some others say that the pitman arms are different on 1973-76 between power and manual. Also , that there is an adapter needed to lengthen the column. Any insight?

U dont have 2 have an adapter. If u find a ps column and remove the steering shaft. It switched into ur column will b correct length
