Project "Distraction from life" A theraputic 65 dart build

-
Quick update moved the dart in the garage so can work on it regardless of weather, its up on jackstands and been stripping all the undercoating. Talk about a ***** lol been working on that for 4 days and only half done. No pics to post but making slow progress

Thank you for your service to our country, and sorry for your loss. You are channelling that in a very positive way. A very sweet 65 dart.

On that undercoating i have found that WD40 liberally sprayed on and resprayed on every day for about a week and letting it soak in softens it up and breaks it loose and a sharp metal scraper makes it damn near fall right off. I did mine this way, and used laquer thinner and rags to clean the rest of it off.

Awesome build

That sucks. I have had neck surgery from a car wreck injury vertibrae fused. I have pinched nerves in my arms that mess me up. I have good days and bad days. I am all about doing things the easier way now.

I found with this method that the key is to spray it on every day and let it soak in over a week maybe weeks on the thicker stuff. Get a thin flexible steel paint scraper and put a sharp edge on it. The wd40 makes the undercoat really flexible and release its grip easily. Some of the harder deposits i have had to use a portable bernsomatic torch to warm up the undercoat then scrape it off.

If you can get wide rolls of auto body paper id recommend rolling it out on your garage floor under your car to catch the dripping wd40, and all the undercoat scrapings then you can just ball it all up and toss it into the dumpster.

So finally got all that acursed undercoating off and my uscar tool sub frame connectors weldeld in. No pictures yet of that. Next moved onto eliminating the cowl vent since its not needed hers pics of that. Still need to sand filler and prime

Well thought I should update this lol. first off due to life rearing its ugly head I ended up selling the 340 Id built for this. No worries though a little change in direction and I'm back on track. I just so happened to have a 99 5.9 tore down that's been sitting in the corner of the garage. it was supposed to replace the 5.2 in my truck, wich runs flawless sooooo I threw a rering kit in it and have it all prepped for the dart now. along with a 46re. A buddy and I just picked up a 99 parts Durango so stripped the engine harness from it along with ecm. just finishing up engine compartment and going to get it into primer, than drop the 5.9 in and get all the wiring figured out and placement of everything before I do paint. my plan is to run the fatory efi for the 99 engine going to send the ecm out have all the unneeded stuff removed and a new tune flashed. Ill run this eng a bit and eventually build a 408 stroker to replace it

Motor is sure looking good, it will be nice with the efi working. That motor should make lots of torque to move the Dart along nicely.

My thinking exactly plus I'm gonna be running 46re beefed up so have added bonus of od

well haven't gotten much done on the dart spent last month rebuilding engine and transmission in my 98 ram. however a dragged another 65 home today very solid only surface rust. for the wopping price of $175. than if you factor in I paid using the 300 I won at the casino last night it was free. lol best part the new woman loves it and wants it so we have a his and hers 65's
