Quick question. Last week I put a throttle bracket on my 5.9 magnum. Took the 2 intake bolts out, put the bracket on and torque the bolts back down. Problem is I torqued to factory la specs which is 30 instead of the magnum specs of 12 ft lb. The one bolt I didn't torque all the way and the other snapped. My question is, since the bolt that snapped it nowhere near a water crossover, if I can drill it and get it out with an easy out without pulling the intake will I be find just putting another bolt in and torqueing it to 12 ft lb? Or should I take the intake off and regasket and put new bolts in?

Did it snap flush to the head or is there some sticking out enough to put a vice grip on?

It was sticking out of the block. It snapped off at an angle sorta so I couldn't drill it with the intake on, I was loose enough that if the drill bit caught a little it'd actually thread it into the head a little farther. I just pulled the intake off, and threaded the broken bolt out with my fingers. Everything's cleaned up and ready to go back on

For future reference, if anybody has a bolt break and you are going to drill it out, use a left hand drill bit. Many times that alone will remove the bolt as the bit grabs the bolt while drilling.

Yea I bought an easy out set just for this (didn't even need it) and I thought it came with LH bits but they're RH

My luck with easy outs on the farm over the years has not been good. I have broken a couple in the drilled hole. Then it was a real challenge.

Just pull the intake and do it right. All it will cost you is a set of new gaskets and an hour of your time. Not to mention the headache you wont have knowing theres no drill shavings in your engine.

Nevermind glad you fixed it the right way
