340srule good thing i did today too. next week they are going up another $110 or so... so thanks for busting my balls to order it right away.

anyway i ordered my balanced rotating assembly today. ordered it from summit. its a scat 408 kit. #1-98113BI . its a cast 4" crank, .030 over forged pistons, forged I beam rods w/ 7/16" cap screws ,rings and bearings. hopefully see it in a week or so.

also found out that my block was originally a roller block. so i'm gonna try to gather all the roller stuff and go with a roller cam...

.

that torque is gonna make your seats wear out faster! are you gonna have an issue with the i beam rods clearing the block?

roller block? how did you find out? a roller cam is gonna be nice.

Joe, guy I talked to bought the same kit for a 340 and the rods cleared the block without notching. The kit you bought was internal balance, correct?

yes internal balance.. yea the cap screws make clearanceing the block either not necessary or its atleast kept to a min.

if the block needs to be clearanced its only gonna have to be like a finger nail thickness in the bottom of the bore from what i understand. won't know for sure until its mocked up though.. some don't need any at all. the cap screws give you more room from what i hear.

its a 89 block and it has the threaded bosses above the cam for the spider. so i'm gonna goto the dealer and price the stuff i need to do the roller.

you know,.... my block is dated 27-11-93. its a mp short block assembly i bought in 2000. i can't remember if i have the 3 bolts for a spider or not. would mine most likely be a roller block?

being a 93 i would bet that it is a roller motor.. mine is a mp short block.. talking to a buddy yesterday and he says his mp is like a 90 so i told him my findings and he got all wound up and knows what he winter project is gonna be...lol

Joe,

I had a really tough time finding the spider and dog-bones on my last stock roller lifter build at the dealer.

Maybe they actually have the stuff in stock now. This was last year.

That'll be a cool engine when you get it done. Nice torquey sucker.

You go boy!!! now put that thing together and meet me at e-town!!!,as far as clearancing the block for the rods, mine did'nt need it done either,if your running h-beams it needs to be done..good luck with the build..oh how much??...

looks like there were 7 spiders aval. $13
the dog bones were $22 for all 8 of them

the lifters were expensive. $375 total.. gonna see if i can get them cheaper elsewhere. i didn't get any of it yet.. i start gathering parts in a couple weeks.

Nice that they have them in stock now. I got the last spider and they had like 12 spiders left and they came from multiple locations.

I think I paid something like $115 for the lifters. Look on the bag. They are there, or were, all the time.

i guess i should get my *** there and order the spider if its that herd to get.. they didn't have them at the dealer itself but could get it for me...

do you have a part number for the lifters? never thought of ebay.

Thats a good price.

yea i have been thinking of buying it then not buying it and fianally said screw it i'm getting it.. good thing too because it will be over $1200 in a couple weeks.. still not a bad price but the $100 will buy some other stuff.

Sounds good joe! i found out my 360 MP block was a roller setup as well after i bought it. Seller didn't know it. I ended up getting my spider and dogbones from the local pick-a-part for $5. I picked up a set of new roller lifters (i forget the name, but crane owned/owns them) for $60 off ebay. . . now i just need the cam and everything else!

Good luck with the build, roller setup will be nice

i may just do the junk yard thing too...

hey mike, can you get me a # and name for those lifters . you have any idea if the magnum lifters are the same? oh and what did you do for push rods? bone yard also? are you going to use adjustable rockers or just stock stamped steel ones?

I have the lifters actually still in the block after mockup at my soon to be in-law's house in vegas actually. Thats where i left the shortblock with the magnum airgap intake i have. Sorry joe.

Didn't get as far as pushrods yet...because, well. i dont have heads! lol. And actually im still on the fence between turboing a Magnum or a 5.7L Hemi once I get working for Bimmer. i like where things are going with the hemis, lots of potential and growing aftermarket

oh the hemi is a great way to go if your starting from scratch.. i seriously thought about it for my dart but i already have the eddy, heads, rpm intake, and tti headders so i was more then half way there for a 408. i will do a gen III hemi sooner or later.
