Pump it Up??

I did the pump it down process on my 68 dart p/s steering pump and it worked awesome for a month at normal local driving. I drove the car 3 hours last weekend and steering at idle was hard when i arrived, almost like manual steering. I checked the fluid level and it was dry. I added fluid and now steering at idle is still hard. Normal driving is fine. Next steps??
1) Rebuild/Replace pump?
2) Undo the pump it down procedure?
3) Something else???

Why did the reservoir go dry? Leak?

didn't see a leak so not sure. still full after the 3 hour drive back.

Usually when they go dry they score the bearings in the pump

It doesn't take long at all for the pump to acquire damage from fluid loss.
