I installed a set of single adjustable QA1 shocks on the rear of my Duster today but the lower mounting is loose. The bushing isn't wide enough to be compressed when the nut is tightened. I inserted the appropriate metal bushing inside the bushing. There is about 5/16" of slop.

What have others done in this situation?

I put those on my 71 Challenger. Same story about not directly fitting. I found or made spacers and washers to fill the gaps. I think my left rear still has a touch too much space there.

I was planning to just use some thicker washer to fill in the space.
This.

I used several Grade 8 washers on either side with some tape to hold them together for assembly. A larger washer to contain the bushing and some smaller diameter washers to position the shock in the middle of the mounting stud/bolt. They can't be seen on the upper shock mount, but are visible on the lower one. I didn't bother painting them black to hide them like I did with the slapper bars, lol. (best traction aid I've tried in 40 + years).

The adjustable shocks or the slapper bars?

The adjustable shocks or the slapper bars?
The properly adjusted slapper bars. I've had to cut and weld all the slapper bars I've ever fitted on my cars to get them to fit correctly. On the manual trans car, I had to use AFCO Double Adjustables with the optional Big Dog Valving to control the body separation that was unloaded the tires as a result of the slapper bars working. Once I combined those two items, the car hooked up hard for literally the first time ever..

The lower bush should be 11/16 id; the same size as the pin od. The bush should be compressed about 1/4 inch with the nut tight.
