Getting some progress on the 1965 Barracuda. Replaced the RF fender and bumper with good used units. Now, on to the rear quarter panels. I knew there was a small amount of rust behind the wheels. On the driver's side it was no big deal, just made a small patch panel and an even smaller patch for the inner fender. But when I got to the passenger side I discovered the whole lower section had been filled with up 3/4" of filler to cover up damage. After a few hours of searching, I found a patch panel from Classic Industries for $299.99 + tax, free shipping. It's all done now, and back in paint. Please don't laugh at my welding skills!

Ive seen a lot worse than that. Looks good itsdiz...nice fitment!

After finishing the RR lower quarter, I decided to attack the RF hood corner which was also filled with bondo. It had been mashed in along with the RF fender and also filled rather than repaired. It is not perfect, and the hood is slightly tweaked in fact they welded a bolt to the under frame where it had buckled, but it will work for the time being. I made this piece from another hood I had from a 2004 Intrepid. I normally use new metal, but I this time I decided to use what I had on hand. I formed the lower curve with my small French Wheel and formed the straight body lines with a bending brake, I have an 18" one attached to my workbench. I have been using rattle cans to cover up my body work, Gloss Red Chile which I buy at Walmart. This car has been repainted at least once and I am 99% positive they did not use the original Ruby red, it is a pretty close match to what's on the car. It's not the prettiest, but ok for now. It would cost as much to repaint the car as I paid for it, because it would have to be stripped to bare metal so for now, I am just going to enjoy it the way it is. I also used a filler with fiberglass stranding in it on the hood, because it is what I call a 'high impact' area. I have also used this on areas on my 1948 Austin such as door panels and around the door hinges, any place that will see a lot of movement and impacts from opening and closing. It is a much harder material than regular filler and less prone to cracking. I use a final skim coat of regular filler to make everything smooth. I never intended to do body work on this car, but I can't stand filler when its 3/4" thick, and of course, some of it had cracked and broken away. I also removed the front emblem which I will clean up and reinstall. I replaced the RF fender and bumper I got at a salvage yard, also found some better headlight rings. Last photo is the before.

Nice work!

Why would we laugh at your welding skills? Looks like you got the job done, didn't warp the crap out of everything and the finished product will have very little filler needed. That's all the matters for welding sheet metal.

Looks like a solid job. I gotta do that last little bit on the back side of the outer wheel house on Vixen's driver's side and figuring it out is just kicking my butt. I got all the outer wheel house done, except those last few inches on that back side. lol
