quick question about overdrive trans

-
Should be a standard transmission, the overdrives started in '75. The easy way to tell us if it had an aluminum case, although some of the early ones had cast iron cases. The input bearing retainer is 5.25" on the overdrive units as well.

Lots more info here
4 Speed Transmissions transmission

Ways to tell:

If front shift lever (3 -- 4 gear) is pointing down, OD

If trans is out of the car, get it into neutral, and then rotate the front shift shaft CW. This puts the gearbox into 3rd gear for a 4 speed, and the OD gear for an OD box. Now carefully rotate the input shaft exactly one rotation while "counting" the output shaft

More than one turn means an OD box

Less than one turn means a 4 speed box.
