Ok so over the past year or so I have been keepin an eye out for my 8.75 rear swap. I picked up an A body housing with a 741 case sure grip with clutch style and 391's for 400 bucks. Along with a B body housing and some axles. Problem is when I bought it there were no brakes. So ive been looking and being that i have front discs rears are not completely necessary. I was looking at the local craigslist and found a guy with an 11 inch drum and backing plate package for an 8.75 rear. He emailed me back with a phone number to call him and come check everything out. I wanted to verify that this is what i need for my 8.75 BBP swap before i call this guy and get the 411 on everything before i call this guy and sound like an idiot before he rips me off. How much should i offer for a package like this? anything else i need to keep my eyes out for. I apologize for the run on questions but Im trying to learn quick this is a learn as i go process with me and my scamp and all possible input and help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Joe

the only brakes that will work for a abody housing with stock axles are the ones that came on it.

I would look into rear disc's

Backing plates and drums with the large pattern wont work on an a body 8-3/4 housing? I find that hard to believe

it won't, the axle spacing is different.

and I assume you know the bolt pattern is different.

I believe that if you use the shortened and resplined C Body axles (or BBP aftermarket), those 11 in brakes with backing plates will work on your A Body 8.75 housing.

thats what i thought. I also am running 15 inch rims with 11 inch drums there should be no clearance issues correct? My plan is to purchase backing plates and drums and then either send my LBP axles out or buy a pair from moser or something. My goal is to just piece everything together

just have moser make you some, then your backing plates, and drums will work, but tell them that is what you are doing.

BTW 11" rear drums would be over kill, and probably lead to some exciting stops :D

Your B Body LBP axles are already too short to be shortened and resplined. You need C Body wagon or truck thru 73 or so 8.75 axles. I've used both with no problems.

Oops forgot to mention that. That is true. If they neck down after the splines, not useable.

I bought a set of 11" brakes for $50 but that didn't include the drums, so I'd say if the drums are usable, that would be a good enough deal.

I am using Cass's axles also, but am now going to four wheel disc.

(I'm assuming) you dont have the "original" drums and hardware? If you did I would suggest redrilling them to LBP.
$100 is OK if the drums are within spec and all the parts are there and useable.
    11" will be ovekill.
    Cant find any 10" set-ups? I've sold a few for $60-$70.
