Hey Everyone,
I have had some small issues with the acceleration on my car since i bought it lik if i step on it to quickly it will sputter and die, and recently the carberator isnt getting anygas on startup but runs fine once its started so I'm thinking its rebuild time. The problem is that im not 100% sure what carb i have, Im 99% sure its a rochester. Its the stock on a 71 dart swinger with the 318, I'll post some pictures on it and there is a stamped number thats either 70441180 103 1 1 or 7041180 103 1 1 i may have taken it down wrong, But I'm new to Carbs and working on them and i was wondering if anyone knew of any handy guides to rebulding them.. Driving a car older than me makes working on them a learing exsperiance.<sp>
Thanks

That is indeed a Rochester carburetor — installed as original equipment on 318s in '71 only; there was some kind of a strike that affected the availability of Carter carbs, so Chrysler went to Rochester to make up the volume. It does sound like time for a carb rebuild. I wouldn't doubt the fuel pump's condition just yet; at the moment it sounds like you've mostly got worn-carb issues (accelerator pump causing the hesitation, leaky needle/seat causing the extended crank time at cold start).

The best mass-market carb kits are by Walker; the best and most complete real carb kits (with jets and other repair parts not included in parts store type kits) come from The Carburetor Shop. I don't recall whether these Rochester carbs use a brass or plastic/foam float. If plastic/foam, replace. If metal, check for leaks—if none, OK to re-use.

Do you know if the rebuild kit comes with the accelerator pump, i heard that some do not come with it

Yes, even the cheap kits come with the accelerator pump.

If you are new to working with carbs, before you try your hand at it, get and read the three books described in this thread.
