While putting together my front suspension rebuild cart on Rockauto I noticed they sold rebuild kits for PS pumps and ones for "steering gear". Has anyone used the Gates kits to rebuild their PS pump or box? I was thinking about having firmfeel do the rebuild but its a lot of money compared to doing it myself. Does anyone know what give the firmfeel boxes that firm feel?

I just took my power steering pump to Autozone. They sent it to ATSCO for rebuild and I got it back in less than 10 days! The total cost was about $55 and they do test it. Remember the output pressure is about 1000 psi.

I also just posted an inquiry on this site for the FirmFeel boxes. People on this site highly recommend them. I think they use different spring pressures to get the different stages, but I'm not sure what springs they are talking about.

A lot of people seem to really like their FirmFeel boxes, but FF wants a pretty penny to rebuild them. My box isn't having any problems so the rebuild would have just been preventive maintenance and a learning experience of how to rebuild steering boxes.
