anyone restore a car with a red interior ??

I am thinking of doing a coronet interior in red but I am concerned with the seemingly lack of red interior parts availability.

Does red dye work over black??

any tips or suggestions.

I am starting from the ground up, the car is going through a complete color change and the original interior is a lot of brown :???:

Red interiors are awesome with black exteriors.

If you get your red mixed up by an autobody supply it will work great.
Here we have finishmasters and they are very good to deal with.
Do not use of the shelf aerosol cans for this.
I have done white over black dash pad (triumph tr6) for a customer
so it would match his leather seats. You could not tell it was dyed.
The trick is thin coats and don't build them up no more than it takes to cover.
Clean parts with soap and water and soft bristle brush. Rinse.
Prep for dye with a slightly damp rag of acetone and be ready to spray right away.
As soon as you see the wet has evaporated. This will slightly melt the vinyl and the
dye will be bonded chemically.
I love a red interior in a Mopar. Have at it. No reason to be concerned.

I did the black and red

I did the black and red

looks fantastic .....I am planning the same color scheme.

the interior would look like the O.P. picture. It's a coronet wagon but I am swapping in a rally dash from a charger so I think the dash and console would be red as well on a charger.

You just gave some inspiration because that looks absolutely like what I was thinking. :D

LIKE SSBA SAID, all thise are the steps and key for it to work.

my 63 dart is orig. black but still has the old red/maroon int. it will be pretty. years back I bought a 68 or 9 gtx, I forget, silver with red int. the P O moved from Ca to Mo, he did the car with a 440 bottom and max wedge top. it was in car craft years before. very pretty car. love red int. and tan int with certain ext colors..
you will find 20 runners for every bee. so goes the repop hoods.

Red interiors are cool.

If one of your passengers pisses you off, you can smack them and the blood will blend in....

Black on Red is the best color layout as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know if the color is an exact match but SEM Color Coat paints are fantastic. I would paint anything red that doesn't get a lot of rubbing or wear. Things like carpet and seat upholstery would get bought new that way you don't have to worry about rubbing through the dye. Kick panels and things like that would be painted.

I have had good luck using the interior paint from Herbs Parts:

https://www.herbsparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=PAINT

I used there bight blue on the dash cover, glove box door, steering wheel, and arm rests in my '73 W200 Power Wagon. I washed all parts with warm soapy water, dried, and wiped everything down with surface prep. When I sprayed the paint I did several light coats. The paint covers surprisingly well!
