I want to remove that black canister on my swinger to clean up my engine bay. I was wondering if I run the extra line from my tank that normally runs to this canister to one of those fuel filters with the extra nipple if that would work?

There is really no reason to remove it. It is very beneficial when complete and operating properly.

I heard if you take it out it makes your car smell like gas. Have you thought about relocating it?

If you do remove it please report if you car starts to stink.

To answer your question; yes.
But you will have to run a vented gas cap, or you will have trouble getting the gas into the carb, perhaps even to the point of collapsing the tank. On hot days the fuel will escape thru the tank vent and fill your garage with highly flammable fumes. If you are running Oxygenated fuel you will have to run a fuel stabilizer, full time, to prevent the alcohol from evaporating and causing starting difficulties. The fuel in the carb will evaporate in as little as 3 days during the summer, And where does it go? Surely not into your garage!
You may have to get a second job, to buy gas to replace that which escapes.
