Removing Console Auto Shifter

G'day. 1st post here. I've recently acquired a 69 notchback barracuda which has just come over from California.
I am trying to remove the auto shifter and console but am not familiar with how a US item is assembled.
I've removed the grubscrew in the side of the chrome bit on the knob but can't work out how the chrome and woodgrain knob come off.The knob is loose but doesn't appear to want to pull off.I don't want to force it in case I inadvertantly damage something.
Any hints greatly appreciated.

Unscrew the knob. The button screws onto the mechanism. When assembled properly the screw should be facing directly rearward.

Thanks for that JimLusk.Worked A treat.I see now the button is screwed onto the threaded depress cable.
