1966 Barracuda with the HD Suspension. It is in restoration. Shop is suggesting new replacement rear springs just because of age. I am more in favor of reusing original stuff when its ok to do so. Is re-arching springs no longer a thing? I know there are several shops around that do it, mainly for heavy trucks etc. But they do auto springs as well. Thoughts?

rearch is a bandaid. those springs are 59 years old. how much life do ya think that metal has left.

put new springs on the thing. call espo ( Spring and Suspension Specialists | ESPO Springs n Things ) or eaton ( EATON Detroit Spring ) and get some stock replacements and be done with it. you'll be happier in the end.

you may or may not see them on the actual web site so call them and talk to someone.

Finding a shop to re-arch will cost more than new springs and it will not last. Replace them.

2nd-ed & 3rd-ed

re-arch will just sag back down in a short period of time. buy new and not worry about it for another lifetime.

I had my springs re arched by a local company over 30yrs ago and they are holding up fine- 66 Formula S

I tried to rearch the originals on my 78 fury. Didn't last a summer. I put air shocks on it for a few years then finally put new ones on and was able to ditch the air shocks

I had my 72 dart re-arched several years ago and they are as good today as they were when done.

But what's the cost of getting springs re-arched correctly? TODAY. Not when yall had it done 30 years ago.
