Hi everyone, wondering what anyone can tell me about replacing the exhaust seats in my S.b. x heads. Are they scary close to water ect?. The set I have are sunk pretty bad. They are fully ported with good parts that why I don't want to build another set! Ect.

I am no expert but I did run X heads for over 25 years and believe that enlarge the valve size is one way to go .I was at the spot you are with my heads I love those heads and have great results on my 340 in the 400 horse power range.I put lots of time and money over the years but it was time to do a valve job after 15 years of great service.it is not cheap to have good work done and harder to fine someone I trust to do the work long story short I went aluminum, there all new parts and out perform my Xs time keeps tiken.

There's a bit of meat on them where the seat ring gets put. There's no big risk to having it done if the head's integrity is good.

Go for it.
Glad this is brought up...because some say they had problems with them leaking water after a seat install. I myself have never had that problem and every shop that gave disclaimer on it seemed to get it right....so I'd like to say its my opinion that that is just another tall tale or rare mishap that spread word of mouth...folklore.
