I thought a 73 (if it has disk brakes) was a 5x4.5 bolt pattern.

5 lug on 4.5" (114.3mm) is a pretty standard size.
Ford also uses this pattern, as well as Mopar and probably many others - under the metric size listing. backspace / offset will be a bigger concern in that size range, so you will need to determine that on your particular car, especially if looking at wheels for more modern cars which tend to not run as deep even if they are as wide.
You may have to consider bumping up /down/ adjust your desired rim size, as I dont think 17's are as popular as they maybe once were, so choices maybe limited in tires and wheel sets. Good luck though,
Great on you for building a car at such a young age, most kids are in front of thier Iphone or game console!

Why not? If that's the look he wants, no issues with that. I'm glad to see a 14 year old being interested in a Duster!! Better than a Honda Civic!

Weld Racing RT-S S77 Forged Aluminum Black Anodized

These come in the sizes you want. Personally I'd go to 18's for ease of fitment.

Very nice! I'm picturing that with a 4-6" drop and they look right at home under there.

because 14 inch rims are hard to find tires for them

Don't forget the hub centering rings to make sure that they mount up concentric. Many will say they're not needed, but they're cheap insurance.

The issue is turning the dog slant 6 into a real dog slant six. Going to suck when the Civic smokes him.

You’re assuming the 17’s will be heavier. That’s a lousy assumption.

The 18x10’s I run with 295/35/18’s weigh the same as a 15x7 cop wheel with a 225/60/15. The 18x9’s with 275/35/18’s I run up front are lighter. Go figure.

That or he is assuming a bigger wheel automatically means a taller tire, reducing overall gear ratio. In either case, I agree that it's a bad assumption.

My opinion,.... go for it man! Make it the way you want it to be! Kudos to you for appreciating these old cars!!

The civic will do that regardless.

New ones are turbo now...a stockish 360 probably isnt safe.

Just a quick reminder; Focus on the original post. This is a 14 yr old wanting to learn from our knowledge & experience. He is spending what I am sure is cherished with his dad. Teach, share, but please don't criticize. I'll step down from the soapbox now.
