Mine was butchered when I got it so I rebuilt it to fit the stereo of my choice. AM radio wasn't going to get it for me anyway.

And I used JB Pro weld to put it together. Couldn't get it commercially rechromed however as the vendor stated the process would melt out the epoxy.

Glad you told me about what epoxy would do if I get it vacuum ornamental chromed I'm glad also I choose to do the acetone abs slurry method because epoxy abs repair was in my hand..working on ac 1968 cluster next...has lots of hackery

Will....I used one of the dealies in the link below to fix the plastic dash top on my Dakota a while back. Big flat piece of plastic with the defroster vent in it, busted into 3 pieces as I tried very gently to pop it loose. A buddy of mine gave me this thing because he had 2. It has the little squiggly wires, where you put the ends in the gun, hold it against the plastic and pull the trigger. The squiggly wires get hot like a stove eye and melt into the plastic. You stop letting it sink in halfway thru and let off the trigger. I used it on the backside of my Dakota dash piece, which broke fairly clean, just into multiple pieces. I'd have to point it out to you on the dash or you wouldn't see it. The tool would be good to join pieces together, but you'd still need to do the acetone slurry to do the finish work on the front since you're working on something where it matters instead of a ratty Dakota.

I was watching them do some plastic welding on some motorcycle fairings and I thought about investing in one of those guns that melts it in like that

I ordered a fine tooth ABS plastic saw and some files so I can get in there and do some tedious fitting

I think all the gun amounts to is a soldering gun with no tip. I'd try it with a soldering gun, but if you took the tip out to stick the ends of the wires in, you'd have to hold it till you got it set in place. The one he gave me has a bushing in each hole, so when you stick the wire ends in, it won't fall out. My luck if I was trying it with a soldering gun, I'd pull the trigger before I let go of the wire!
