hey guys can i run these 2 types of rockers on the same shaft on my 1968 383. they are not exactly the same. the one on the left is the stock rocker and the one on the right is one that i want to run on the same shaft as the one on the left. the guy who i got the one on the right told me it was off of a 1967 HP engine. thanks

The one on the right looks to me like it's worn pretty bad on the thru hole for the shaft. Unless it's just the angle, but it sure looks egg shaped. As far as I know the Big block factory rockers are the same except of course the left and right. Are you having trouble finding these?

I agree with Dubob, something doesn't look right? If that is indeed a stock rocker on the right, what will you possibly gain from it? Both should have the same ratio, so I'd use the best set you have.....condition wise.

the top of the hole is more egged shape on the rocker on the right. but if you look at the wear marks the rocker on the right indicates less wear. i do have the complete set of the rockers on the right, so i could replace all 16 also.

the one on the right I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.

like i said the one on the right has very little wear.
and only the top of the hole is oval. the bottom wear it rides on the shaft is round.
piss me off i just got the set of the right shipped to me yesterday.

the reason why i needed one rocker arm is because i noticed the one of my old one had a rough spot in the pushrod pocket and when i turned the engine over with a wrench that rocker had a little click to it when the valve just started opening. is there a way polish out the rocker pocket so i can just reuse my old one for now?

i ended up lightly smothing out the pocket of my old rocker. now no more clicking noise. So i think it should be good. thanks guys . Oh yes and one of those other rockers have a stamping "J2" if that means anything.

Is your engine stock? Those paddle type rockers were just barely good enough for stock engines. If I ever build another small or big block I will throw them in the trash where they belong. Small block Chevy rockers are made better.

are you refering to all stock bigblock rockers? and yes my 383 is pretty much stock.

You might can get by with them then. I would not use them come hell or high water, I don't care how many engines used them successfully. I would use something like these.

Although you can find better deals. Those type rockers are MUCH more accurate and much more durable. JMO.
