Roller Rockers with TFS PowerPort 190cc heads

Hope everyone is doing well.

I was wondering what rocker arm is everyone using on the TFS POWERPORT 190cc SmallBlock HEADS?

It looks like they are only marketing the 1.5 or 1.6 ratio Harland Sharp sets for them.

I'm having trouble finding a high lift cam that isn't a 250+ degree@ 0.050" lift solid roller.

Anyone running over .600 using a hydraulic roller?
 
Unless you already have the lifters, don't run a hyd. roller. it's just silly. AND call Mike at B3 Racing for your rocker needs. I don't think he'll suggest the Harland Sharps.

He's a WEALTH of info and won't mind telling you the truth.

FYI I run a .640/.640 solid roller 259/265 @ .050, and I consider it very streetable. Adjust valves once a year and you're good. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the reply.

It's a magnum 5.2l block, that I'm stroking to 390ci. I already have hydraulic rollers for when I was going to do a cam swap in the 5.2l.

It's a daily driver with a 46re, so I am not looking to make peak power at 7,000rpms. I do beat the piss out if it often.

I don't want to have to worry about being in a hour of traffic, so I am apprehensive about having a big duration.

I have a friend who had very good luck running the budget friendly Mancini HS made rockers on those heads his cam is 264-268 flat tappet 620 ish lift.
 

It has been mentioned here on FABO, and also engine masters, that it is generally acceptable to use a hydraulic roller profile cam with solid roller lifters. I have never tried this myself, but it seems to be common with a tighter lash.
I too used PRW 1.6 roller rockers and kit from Mike at B3 with my trickflow heads. About 5k miles so far without any issues.

Who else in this thread said they were using PRW stuff.
The Mancini rockers are made by Harland Sharp
 
I used the PRW 1.6 rockers with the B3 geometry kit on a 372 ci. Inch that I built, with Trick Flow heads and a Comp hydraulic roller cam. The guy I built it for drives it all the time.

I have used PRW pressed steel roller tip stud mount rockers 1.7:1 ratio, 0.605 lift solid flat tappet, were ok, did the job well enough for may application, as in didn't fail/crack and the roller section didn't fall apart.

this was 10 years ago and at the time i had no idea who PRW were, and it would appear neither did anyone else, Amazon purchase at about $150 a set. asking for experience with them just got a load of "are they chinese" type comments

i run yella terra now as i happened across a set at a price lower than lottery win level. so the PRW are back in their box for the future.

I Never even heard of PRW before I started coming on this website. I had to look up what company it was? When it came to rocker arms I've only known/heard of Jesel, T&D, Crower, Crane, Compcams, Harland Sharp then cheaper options like Scorpion.
 
Is anyone running a ratio other than the standard 1.5/1.6 : 1 ? Anyone running 1.7:1?

I know there are 1.7’s for big blocks but I have never heard of any for the small blocks. At least at the consumer level..

What Cam did you go with? Everyone suggests cams that would never work with Power brakes and Hydro boost companies don't make it for my vehicle... Been looking into possible using a Z06 vacuum pump as an option. I don't want to spend $1,000 on a boost to gain 10hp with a tight LSA/long duration cam. I am also not looking for a radical / high idle rpm.

It's a Daily driver...meaning Year round, In traffic.
 
This is a non offensive cam choice for daily driving;
I had howards spec me a camshaft for a daily driven truck with a stroker 418 and trick flow heads, and this is what the came up with.
I also sent the same information to Mike Jones Cams, and their cam choice was almost the same differing only in having more lift.
There was a wait for that, and they howards was in stock, so that is the direction I went.
It should work well in your 392 depending on compression ratio.

I tried ordering this one, but it would take 12-14 weeks. They are trying to suggest the Comp cams Comp Cams 20-813-9 Xtreme Energy Retro-Fit Roller Camshaft, But I am pissed at Comp Cams... the worst customer service of any car parts company I've bought from. So they don't deserve my money. I contacted Bullet but they want $640 and 14weeks to make me one.
 
I didn't mention it, but I'm running PRW Steel Bushed rockers from B3. No more aluminum for me.

Here's what eventually will happen. Might go a loong time, or might not.

I have the 1.55" spring which they market as the hyd. Roller. The 1.46" are their "flat tappet" springs, while the 1.56" they call the "solid roller " spring.

I asked Compcams if those springs would work with their fast lobes magnum/QXI/QNX, and they said they would.

I was going to get a custom cams with QXI 237INT/243 EX, lift with 1.6rr would be 0.632/0.638" lift.

Howard’s extreme hyd roller lobes will get me to .640" with 1.6rr.

Yes, that's why I was roundabout asking. The 1.46 would limit you to hydraulic flat tappet or small hydraulic rollers.
 
For a daily driver 318/5.2 with TFS heads you don’t need a .630 lift cam. And you can’t run that much lift anyway with the stock magnum Hydraulic lifters and dog bones so you’d have to retrofit a different solid roller lifter with tie bars. Press the easy button and get a shelf Cam in the 230s at 050 with .550 or so lift and enjoy the hell out of it.

Get a custom ground cam from Comp, the TK series roller. 249 @ 050, 0.645" lift with 1.5 rockers.

I am referring to the 1 46 springs that trick flow spec'd on their heads, which have 120lbs seat pressure and 300? at maximum lift. These particular springs are probably not what your "couple of guys" are running with their solid rollers
