Thoughts about eng blocks that have been board an honed that have stains in the walls from where water had once been inside ?

Run it. You'd be shocked at how much surface rust there is on engines that sit up for some time. Another example is brake rotors.

If it has been bored & honed......& the stain was not removed during honing, it suggests the 'stain' might be a depression [ rust ] in the bores.

If rust is still visible after honing, then there is a hollow/groove in the bore that the honing stones did not touch. That means the piston rings are also going to pass over this gap. This gap will allow blowby & power loss. It will also allow oil to pass the rings & get into the chamber.
A pic would help.

I sure don't want to argue with anyone. Imagine a ink stain in your fingerprint. That is a very poor finish compared to a crosshatch honing.
This is a good read if it works.
And it don't work. Sorry

No one I know uses RMS to describe the surface geometry of a cylinder bore.

If the rust stain isn’t proud, send it.

It will hold a skosh more oil and that’s not a bad thing.

Run a ring down the cyl to the spot.. put a flashlight under and see if you see light... not exact but at least and idea of how bad it might be then...

Get your machinist to check it for roundness. It's probably good to go, I've run freshly machined blocks with some rust stains with no problems.

Guess I just load it up in the truck and get it checked out like demonracer said other wise I’ll just be thinking back and wondering. I think they were all good replies but. Then. U would always wonder.
