If you have them, Use them, If you dont, go get some.

On my way to the Dr's to get a chunk of metal removed from my eye after the ER Dr was unsuccessful last night. Something about having a drill bit in my eye isnt sitting well with me.

OWHHHH!!!!!!
I been there with a chunk of ceramic tile. Had to hold my eye lid open while I drove my truck to the hospital in Heavy traffic. No fun at all.
Hope every thing goes ok Adam,
Frank

I can never have an MRI done unless it's an emergency (life threathening) situation because I have a piece of metal in my left eye that can't be removed without major surgery. If they do an MRI they run the risk of blinding me if the metal moves with the Magnetic Imaging.

I ALWAYS wear safety glasses now.

Adam are you OK now? I hope at least one persons reads this and understands the importance of safety glasses. Even if your "just drilling one hole or air chiseling one nut" off.

John, They couldnt get it out at the ER so Im off to a specialist in 1/2hr. Im a bit nervous to say the least, LOL

Best of luck.

I had a sliver removed years ago, running a die grinder without protection. Lesson learned.

Also, wear gloves and with power tools as they are, ear plugs are good too.

I'm sure you'll be OK. Hopefully you'll just look like a pirate for a day or two while it heals. :-D

Just so you know whats coming. When you get there he'll place some dye in your eye to help him see the foriegn matter better. It will sting just a little but then will become painless. Your eye will water big time. He may take a small drill and i do mean small to dislodge the piece then if it's metalic he will use a magnet or Q tip to get it out. He will give you some eye drops to numb the eye and maybe cover it so as to protect it and keep the light out. How do i know? I only have one eye. The other is plastic. I lost it in my senior year of school in 69. I do take care of the one i have left. I see some people all the time pulling crap that only an idiot would pull with their safety. I poked my eye out with a pocket knife. Take care Adam.........and the rest of you too.
Small Block

Best of luck Adam. I never had anything as serious as that but have had sawdust mess me up for a couple day untill it festerd out and that hurt like hell.

Yep the ceramic tile got me also. It came out but cut a vein inside my eye so it was red for a while. Something that you wouldn't think would get in the eyes "pop" there it is.

All better. Good looking Dr made it easier. She numbed my eye and got the metal out with a needle then drilled out the rust. It wasnt nearly as bad as I was expecting. That doesnt mean I want to do it again though, LOL I have to go back in the morning to have it checked.

Good to hear that they got it out and that all is well Adam. Like you say, safety glasses are key.

In the mid 80's I got some metal in my eyes when blowing out a cylinder head after a valve job. I remember the tray full of what looked like dental picks, the numbing eye drops and the bib that was soaked from my eyes watering. It really sucked.

Great reminder.

Glad to hear you're ok......

And for those of you that wear eyeglasses and think they're enough.....think again. They make safety glasses that fit over your regular glasses.

Good to hear you got it out....I too encourage everyone to wear them. Even on a quickie with the wire wheel. Without my eyes or hands, I am USELESS as a mechanic.

Thats me, I wear eye glasses but most of the time when Im working on something Im looking over the top of them.

Wow that must have sucked adam, glad you got it out.

It happens to me a lot, don't always use safety glasses when grinding away.
I use a japanese refrigerator magnet, looks like a tuna nigiri, thats really strong and pulls'em out every time.

Glad to hear you're ok......

I've had crap get into my eyes around my eyeglasses that required an emergency room visit. Now, even if I am working on a creeper without power tools, I have on my stylin' goggles.

Happy to hear your OK there Buddy. I wear glasses too but I still slip on the safety goggels. They're a pain in the *** when your glasses fog up, but I'd rather stop to air them out than dig something out...

Good to hear that all's well, Adam.

Had to go through the same thing last year. And I was wearing safety glasses, it just bounced up off of my cheek and into my eye, I guess.

When I was working at the Pulp Mill, we had to wear safety glasses and a face shield if we were doing any grinding. Talk about over the top, but better safe than sorry. Boy, talk about fogging up, a pulp mill is a sweaty place at the best of times.

It was a neat little drill that the doctor used, though.

My Dad has been to the eye doc twice now to have metal taken out of his eye from the angle grinder. So now I all ways ware protection. He said it was very panful.

Adam,

Glad you're OK. That sucks and it happens so fast.

Glad it went well. Just got a sliver of metal taken out of my eye last week (3rd or 4th time). I always wear safety glasses but have the damndest luck with stuff taking bad bounces and finding its way into my eyes:angry7:
