Salter's BBM 383 build

-
That's a bunch of great comments.
I have a 470 that was with a solid flat tappet and ootb 240s that made 685+ish hp and 670 tq
600 ft lbs at 3000 rpm.
Getting a bigger s/r cam and many hours of porting my tf240s & a wieand tunnel ram that I made because they simply aren't available and I can't afford a Indy tr.
not a brag, because it's tore down because I did a mathematical error on my rod bearing.
The trickflow heads make impressive power for a standard rocker head.
1.42 tq/ci is pretty remarkable. Wow. J.Rob

Disagree here RRR. Ive had way too many unsatisfied customers with their 383 builds. J.Rob
I think some of that is expectations base on some of your other builds. They see this 650HP and that 700HP and want the same kinda thing. I'd be happy with a 450HP 383 and that's very reachable. But thanks to magazine articles and forum super heroes, everybody's gotta have 600 plus.

With a larger cube short block 600 HP is meerly just what happens with 240 heads.

So, they used big tube headers on the dyno when it's ultimately going to be run with manifolds in the car? Is that common?
Of course it is. So that the numbers will be inflated and the customer will be more apt to pay that price.

Most Dyno shops have Dyno headers. I'm sure some don't have Mopar headers at all. For ease of hooking up to the Dyno they use headers.Manifolds would be another setup and ain't nobody got time for that.As well as most all race engines and hot street engines run headers.May not be the same tubes size you are running but they have to fit the Dyno as well.

The shop that dynoed my 505 has no Mopar headers. The engine builder borrowed a buddies set of 2" Tti to run mine.Just happened to be the same set I am running in the car.I am 3 hrs away so it was much appreciated to not make an extra trip.

Exactly! You do like @PRH says.....I'd push the customer to move to a 431 or even better the excellent 451. Ive done over 600hp in a solid flat tapped build with TF240,s OOTB. Oh and I think it made 590 tq @ 470 cubes. It's documented here somewhere. J.Rob
You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink.

He got paid to do it the customers way.

I understand that and have done that....but I will flat out refuse and "Save them from themselves" They can go somewhere else and "in their minds save some shekels". J.Rob

This build in particular, take the observed HP numbers and knock 50+ HP off that guaranteed it's in the upper 300s in the car.
Ok, so let's say 375HP just to put a number on it. Which is capable of what? Low 12s in a well prepped A body? High 11s? Isn't that respectable?
