im buying from jegs 2morro, what do you guys rec for valve springs and valve seats...im gonna go the double spring(not the hard core double spring) comp cams? crane? let me know any insight...thanks

Come tomorrow, when the company asks what cam you have in there now, they'll match up the springs from the maker of the cam. You can ask for a step up in the springs and they might have it. Otherwise, they'll have to cross ref the spring pressures and recomend what you purchase. Read that all over again and the last line twice more, What you decided to purchase.

Comp cams likes to recommend thier Beehive springs, they say it's a better spring. I have not used them yet, but I will probobly install a set after this season. You might ask them about them.

A beehive spring kit from comp is about $300-350. I just got one for a set of Edelbrocks. They work very well.

If you are running a XE268H or smaller, really no need for a true double spring. If you are running stock rockers, ~300-315 over the nose is about all they will take and stay together.

Go with what the manufacture recommends or speak with a competent machine shop for a recommendation. Brian at Indio Motor Machine in Indio, CA is very good.

whats the deal with the shims and the valve springs?...i have never played with this before. do i need to measure for the shims(obviously i would need to measure) i bought comp cams springs and valve spring seats....do i need to buy shims? the yahoo who built this motor last only had 11 valve spring seats. so on 5 of the valves the spring was just running on the head surface...so, when im putting my heads back together...what should i do...im kind of multitasking while writing this....if i need to make something a little more clear, let me know. hope you old school engine guys can help here....

Spring seats and shims are only needed if you need to adjust the installed height of the spring to get the seat pressure correct.

The springs will have a recommended installed height. You measure the distance from the bottom side of the valve spring retainer to the surface on the head where the spring rests. If the numbers are within a few thousands then there is no need to use shims.

comp cams spring, off the top of my head i cant remember what part number, but ill let you know. the springs match my cam thats just a tick over stock.

69, if the heads are iron, you dont need spring cups. Aluminum needs them, iron doesn't.
