Looking for opinions on what is the best route for a SB build to get mid to low 11's in a 69 Dart. I've got a 440 I'm leaning on putting in but I want to see the SB info first to make a fair comparison and I want to keep my self open minded for either option. I'm thinking I'll make 4-5 trips to the track a year and mostly use the car on the street so I want to avoid any crazy build that will make it "un-streetable".

The number I have in my head for HP is roughly 600, and I've read a lot about 408 strokers lately but I don't know the rough costs of putting one of those together nor what it takes to get 600hp out of one.

Any info and what is the best approach, total cost etc is appreciated. If there is a preexisting thread on this I apologize and please direct me to it.

link works for me..LOL

it is a 408 based on the indy/rhs heads that made 500 hp

a standard 340/360 block is going to have problems staying together at 600 hp...if you are going for that much hp...better invest in a R3 block to begin with

Sounds to me like that is a 10 second car in the 1/4, meaning I don't need the 600hp to do what I want. Thanks anyway for the link.

600hp to run low 11's

You'd have at least 100hp in the bank.

All you need is ~500hp to run that number in a 3300# car.

Mid to low 11's..small block and depending on what you use in the build, you may not need to stroke it..i've been 11.0's with my very streetable 416,and currently in the 11.70's with my "stock stroke" 360,hoping to get in the 11.50's when fuel issue's are fixed...

cast mopar crank 4 inch
eagle I beams
keith black 107 flattops
untouched eddy heads
rpm air gap intake
750 holley dp
comp big m thumper cam hyd roller
comp retrofit lifters

just built one for $4100
It made 470 hp and 530ft
in a 65 dart it runs 11.6
with a 275/60/15 bf drag radial and 3.91 gears
it is a ******* beast and super streetable

KB107 pistons will not work with a 4 inch stroke..the pistons will hit the heads...

2 + 6.123 + 1.67= 9.793....the pistons will be .200 out of the deck...

pistons for 4 inch strokers usually have compression heights of 1.45..

10 to 1 408 ,Econo W2 (unported heads),hydraulic cam (.484./510 with 235 duration @ 50),750 Demon ,open Hedman headers,3000 stall with a Powerglide ,and 4.10 gears with 8.5 slicks.Best pass so far was 11.48 @ 113.2 with a sorry 1.63 60'.I have since done a 1.54 60' in the 1/8 ,but havent ran it in the 1/4 since last Fall.Im thinking 11.30's are doable in the right conditions.Car is 3000 lbs and could be totally streetable with the compression and mild cam its running.Click on the link in my signature if you want to see it run ...

LOL what a coincident, I saw that video last night while just randomly searching youtube for Dart vids....nice car.

I will probably want a bigger lift cam but all in all it sounds like what has been mentioned so far are routes I will highly consider. Thanks for all the input.

Thanks ,im pretty proud of the Dart.I love being the only Small Block Mopar running at the pre 65 Nostalgia events i attend ,and watching the Bowtie crowd laugh at it and then scratch their heads later .May be a bit full of myself also ,lol ...

STONE stock 8.5:1 360 with 1971 340 intake 850 thermoquad and 340 cam. Forged 8.5:1 pistons with good rod bolts.........and a 300 horse nitrous plate under the carb. Talk about a sleeper.
