Scammers after parts!

Hey everybody just wanted to make you aware of whats happening.


I just got an email today for parts that I had listed for sale.

Here is the email that I got

I am interested in buying the small block rockers and shafts that you have placed for sale now, and I would want to enquire about the present condition of the above mentioned, as well as some detail about you. I expect this timely enough.

As for the payment, I would need you to get back in touch with the last asking price as I will be paying with a cashiers cheque.

Lastly, please forward to me your full company's (or house address, telephone and fax) details as I will subsequently prefer reaching you through these facilities.

I checked the IP address from the email and it's coming from Amsterdam. The sending email is autosparts1925 [at] yahoo.com.

He is a real person, just can't tell you for sure that that is who sent you the e-mail, but I would think you should be able to find out by contacting the U of A via an e-mail that you could specify be forwarded to the good doctor and have him contact u thru their system to verify or deny he sent it.

Hey dude, where do I send the money and heres my address. And basicly thats what you got.

The first one you posted could be legit. Give him a shot. Take the check, go to your bank and explain, and see if it's good. I will not budge on a part until I have your cash in hand. Then I'll send it the cheapest way, insured. Unless you want it faster, then you pay the difference.

Of course, the African one was sent by a crack head going insane.

He is a real person, just can't tell you for sure that that is who sent you the e-mail, but I would think you should be able to find out by contacting the U of A via an e-mail that you could specify be forwarded to the good doctor and have him contact u thru their system to verify or deny he sent it.

i agree with this and that was my feelings, if this guy is a doctor, you would think that he would have emailed you with a DOCTORS email such as@misterdocter.net/com/de/uk.de

if he is from the UK thats what it would be
but then again i dont specifically know any doctors who search craiglist at the office!!!

those are also points to concider.

as for that african thing.. wtf is that?? its so typical to not even read it for me, thats why i have a junk email section. mind you i also dont need viagra but i get that and chicks from russia looking for a man..

I think the fact that he is replying to everyones posting not specific to any one part implies this is a scam. We can test this however; Krabysniper go ahead and send him all your spare parts what the hell give your social security number, credit card numbers, home address anything he asks for, and after you have received payment, please report back to us. Good luck.

I even followed up and tried to ask for contact information to complete transaction and they avoided this question both times.

No where in the e-mail does it ask for his social security number, credit card numbers, doesn't ask him to ship the parts and then he'll send payment, and I have recieved NO e-mails from this person regarding ANY of the parts I have ever advertised nor has anyone I know. So no I don't see how you can "Assume" that it's a scam because he is "replying to everyone" (you do not count as everyone smythy) which by the way makes me ask how do YOU know what e-mails "EVERYONE" is getting? Are you some huge hacker that we need to worry about?

Anybody who advertises parts and then disregards potential customers just because they are in a foriegn country, dosn't really want to sell or is being prejudiced or maybe even racist (yes I understand it can be a hassle to ship internationally but if the guys got the money, should it matter?) You guys are so paranoid that you think giving someone your address to send you a check or your phone number so he can call to try to figure the best way to ship is going to get your identity stolen, LMMFAO! I can get your real name and address with your license plate number which you so proudly have displayed in your picture of your car in the garage in your profile and the fact that you live in Janesville Wisconsin, your a financial advisor, and your birthday is aug 14, 72'. Hell, with that info I can probably scrounge up your ss number too, if I truly wanted too or had the inclination too. Think a little and quite being so paranoid that your scared of your own shadow. If you don't want to sell to him because he is not in the US, fine make sure you include that info when posting parts for sale anywhere on the net, but don't "ASSUME" he's a scammer just because he sends an e-mail, that shows interest in purchasing your parts, and his understanding of the english langauge sucks. Remember, it is a WORD WIDE INTERNET, not just the United States Internet, you will find that there are people in other countries who like mopars as much as we do, and they need parts too, probably more so do to a lack of spares and salvage yards with parts for mopars, in their countries.

That said, yes it could be a phishing expidition, but you wont know until you have verified whether he is who he says he is. As a matter of fact you could just send him an e-mail back asking him to e-mail you from HIS place of buisness (ie The University of Amsterdam) which would help to verify he is who he claims to be or if your so truly fearfull that giving him your phone number will get you into a million dollar debt, have him give you his phone number and YOU spend the money to call him, seems to me he wants your number so HE can call you, on HIS dime, but your to paranoid to realize it.

Um, wouldn't a cashiers check be the most logical way to pay it? Since he is in another country, isn't it the easiest way to have foreign currency converted to US dollars and sent here?


As long as the guy is only interested in sending you a CC for the agreed price, plus shipping, there shouldn't be a problem.

smythge, Come on, honestly i read it as a joke and no harm was actually implied, yet i assume thats how i feel.

But you have to look at it in both lights and figure it out.
Every week is something new with my email. i dont post things for sale but ifi did i would worry where you posted it, some places sell or give or even barter your personal info to other companies and PEOPLE.

i ALSO have never posted a picture on the internet since i was about 12, but yet every other day i get an email from asjkfggjaklg in russia looking for a wealthy sexy man to marry in america so she can move here!?!? I DONT LIVE IN AMERICA. im CANAAAADIANNNN EH! lol

And theres those people that saw my picture online adn im apparently soo hot that they want to chat with me.. i DONT chat with women on the internet, i have a hard enough time listening to my WIFE. so HA thats bull too!

and i dont understand why this is escaladed to where it is. we are all grown ups guys.. chill and have a beer or go for a rump on the V8 in a secluded area! :headbang:

I think this is a great community where people with a common interest can share ideas and learn from each other. That’s why I am lost in all of this. We were just trying to alert people to a potential scam going on. Krabysniper seems to disagree, instead of acting like an adult he retaliates by posting all my personal information , he then makes the accusation and I quote is being prejudiced or maybe even racist I would excuse this if this were the first negative reply I had gotten from him, but it's becoming a trend. All his knowledge is useless when he has an obvious problem articulating his thoughts in a positive manner.

Tell him to send the check,put it in the Bank and when the Bank lifts the hold because the funds were transfered send him the parts.! Maybe he is building a Mopar! Don't sound like some of the scams I have ran across.Most scammers want you to accept a check that is more than what you want for the parts and then give the remainder to the person picking up the items sold!
Make sure the you let him know that the parts wil not be shipped until the check clears the Bank! If he is a scammer that will be the end of the e mails from him,If he is legit he will continue the transaction.Let him know that you have to be careful due to all the scamming going on .See how it goes from there. Just be careful what information you give him! No Bank information or anything like that because it is not needed in a Cashiers Check transaction only in transfers of currency.

I failed to mention that he replied to all my posts for parts for sale dating as far back as 6 months. He asked about a small block ignition , big block heads, a gas tank, a 7.25 rearend, and some seats. One heck of car that needs all those parts.

I didn't post anything you yourself hadn't already made PUBLIC knowledge smythge, look in your personal profile as anyone can, I merely pointed it out as a representation of the fact that there is more info available about A LOT of the people on any of the bulletin boards and a lot of people just don't realize how much they expose themselves in this manner or in other ways in bulletin board systems in general. As to making any accusation or even an implication of YOU, Smythge, being a racist or prejudiced, you are mistaken there. What I said was that to deny someone else in the world an equal chance or opportunity to purchase or sell parts, based on the fact that his IP address is in Amsterdam does, by definition of the words, represent a form of racism or prejudice. That was directed at any and all who would choose to do such a thing. By posting here that you think he is a scammer you may cause others to totally disregard this guy the next time he sends an e-mail looking for parts. Look up prejudice and racism in the dictionary and you'll understand what I am refering too. I did not mean to imply that you might be a member of the KKK or anything dumb like that :salute: .

Your post implied to me that you felt great concern that the guy asked for Blackace's address and phone number. Honestly, I ask the same of most people I repond to, and have been asked the same by many who have responded to me when looking to buy parts. As to the fact that he has responded to you about parts for the last 6 months should kinda indicate that, uhhhhhhhm, maybe the guy AIN'T a scammer. Good lord, I need a lot of stuff for different vehicles, and needed ALOT of stuff for my Dart. I have and I am CONSTANTLY sending out e-mails and private messages to people asking about parts, some pan out and others don't. Should someone I may have responded to on a half dozen instances regarding parts start to think I am a scammer or con because of it?? Or on the reverse of that, and using yourself as an example again (I am truly apoligetic for that but I like to use examples alot when trying to get ideas and thoughts across in a written message), I have offered several different big blocks to you in your search for a bb for your car both originally and recently when you broke yours, are you gonna say I am a scammer because I have tried to sell you a big block a buncha times?

Please do not be mistaken in your thoughts or feelings towards me just because of written words on a page, they do not reflect the humour I may have intended, and in some instances, that may not have been noticed/recognized, or the genuine concern I have for all my fellow automotive enthusiasts. First off I don't have any issues with shipping anything to anyone who is in Amsterdam or any other country since I have done it coutless times before.

How do I know it is a scam. I am not 100% sure unless I went through with the deal, BUT he had sent me the same exact emails for all three parts I had listed. He never asked me any specific question about the parts. Didn't ask if I accpet cashiers cheques. He wants to know details about me? Persoanlly when I by parts from someone I don't want to know about the person I am buying parts from I am interested in the parts themselves. Of course I would want to know if the person is legit but you don't know if he still will run off with your money or not.

The number one thing that bring it to my attention is the cashier cheques because that is what they are doing. I never stated whether I was a company or such. When dealing with someone who has parts forsale or anything else for that matter I never think of them as a company.


Personally I think this whole thread is blown out of proportion! Maybe I should have emailed him back first before posting but I didn't. So if anyone else gets emails from him send him a reply or better yet wait till he sends the money and see what happens.

In some cases you could get an email that simply yet bruptly says
"id like to talk abou tyour parts for sale. can i have your number?"

when it should have included HIS number and asked for yours to give the seller the mature and stimulating option of wasting his calling time and money or youthe seller giving your number, because like kraby said with your email i myself could find out alot about you.. or you could simply make a short reply..

regarding what is they want and when you could call them.
be rude if you want.. if he turely wants your partts or is interested.. he will reply. if not legit.. he will move on to someone else...

As I said, maybe his english sucks, what I read into the e-mail is that he wants contact info, not that he wants your birthdate or the names of all your relatives, or what you had for breakfast yesterday or your social security number.

You would prefer to be paid with uhhhhh, a personal check maybe??? You always have the option, in a response to someone like who is contacting you about parts, to TELL them how you want to be paid, if it dosn't suit them they will tell you so and move on or they wont reply to you at all because they won't be interested in your requested payment method.

As I said, his english sucks and maybe he uses a simialar way of responding to all the people he deals with.

Again I bring you to the fact that he is a foriegner who's understanding of our language may not be good, you may not think of people that way, but maybe he does.

Now we are down to the nitty gritty of WHY I posted to this in the first place and the point I have been making all along, DO NOT assume, just because of a few key words that you associate with scams, that someone is out to con you and come to ANY bulletin board slandering them by saying they are scammers or cons, all because they send you an e-mail asking about parts. This is not to say that we shouldn't all be on the lookout for the scammers, just saying THINK before saying something about somebody else on a huge open forum. That would be like me coming to the forum and saying that "BlackAce is a satanist/pirate because he has a skull for an avatar" makes no sense at all does it? (This is again an example and not a true thought or feeling towards you ace).

If you do not respond he will not send money, even I am certain beyond a shadow of a doubt about this fact. I certainly don't just start sending out checks in hopes that someone is going to just send the part, with out first GETTING SOME DETAILS about the person I am going to deal with.

How would you know, you never responded to the guy. Never even gave him a chance, just came here and called him a scammer. I searched his name and found no other Peter Reiss listed, ain't to say there isn't, but I find it less likely. There are 8 men in the tri state area that I live in all with the EXACT SAME NAME, my name. Does this automaticly make me a scammer and nobody should deal in any parts with me? I didn't think so.

Common sense guys, like I said, I just wanted to point out that you should stop and think before you go spreading these kinds of things around.
